Pretty much all of his songs have elaborate strumming and picking...

Not to be accused of boasting, but I've a very proficient guitarist and it even tookme a few days to get the strumming and hammer-ons and pull-offs right for "Delicate" and "Eskimo". It took me another few days to be able to sing to them at the same time.

Maybe go for strumming along to Cannonball, you can leave the plucking for later, just a suggestion.

Maybe give blowers daughter a go! Its all based on the "e" chord shape really! Allows for a beginner to play it with basic strumming patterns without taking from the mood! Thats what i found anyway!

I find it arkward but I'll practise it more and see how it goes!

Power chords can be tricky for a learning player.

Volcano can be played with your basic open chord shapes and the rhythm isn't too tricky.

Am G F

Oh yeah, forgot about beginners fingers, a bit delicate for power chords. Amie's a pretty easy one if you strip it down to basics :

Capo2

Verses: C G Am F, (x2 for intro)Dm Am F G

Chorus: AmF G C Dm Am F G

Pretty easy and a good variation of chords, and timing's none too bad either.

How do you mean power chords are hard on beginners' fingers? ...I don't understand what you're getting at.

and of course you'd know everything about guitar playing being 'a very proficient guitar player' and all!?!?

i'm sorry if that's a tad bit snide but your constant remarks about how good a guitar player you are, are getting quite tiresome

Beginners find it hard using the index finger to bar the open strings AND play the notes of the rest of the chord.

Think back to when you had to place one finger at a time in a position to make an open chord, then remember when you had to get used to your wrist position and the lack of strength in your fingers... It all takes time and practice.

Congratulations!

So we're talking about two solid hours here I presume?

So do you think it took me 48 hours? or do you think maybe I spentten or twenty minutes on it a day and then moved on to playing something else?

so Delicate is difficult, huh? that's too bad. I was really hoping to be able to strum along with that one, however I am a very...very very very early beginner, so it probably won't happen right away.
