Toronto Setlist & mini-review
Blower's Daughter part 2
Woman Like a Man Delicate Volcano (new song - on the rhodes "she..." ) (new song - guitar - "sit on the chimney;" or something like that) the professor older chests eskimo I remember ------------- Cheers, Darlin' Accidental Babies Blower's Daughter/Creep ------------- Cannonball Amie 9 crimes Cold Water/Hallelujah it was a great show, high energy... damien was completely solo, no band at all. he played from 9pm til 11pm. he said that lisa will start the tour in boston. he also said that the new album is completely recorded and done. someone yelled "when is it coming out?!" he replied "soon." and then the crowd yelled "that's what you said last year..." he winced and said "december-ish." overall, i had a good time - i was a little dissapointed in the setlist - there weren't any surprises at all. it was kind of generic for him. he didn't talk at all during the first half, and seemed like he was in a bad mood. he did loosen up by the second half, and joked around a bit. it was hotter than hell in there, i was literally dripping with sweat, and damien's clothes were so sweaty it looked like he had peed his pants. and i did miss lisa and the band on some songs. but the bottom line was that even damien's generic/weakest performances are better than a lot of people's best ones. i could watch him for hours. also: one of the worst opening acts i've ever seen. i forget the girl's name, but she was awful. i felt sorry for her. highlights: eskimo, the professor, BD2 & woman like a man were particularly good. the end of accidental babies was really intense; he raised his voice fairly loud and sort of shouted it. i really enjoyed watching him play the rhodes. thats it for now. time to sleep. I went to the Toronto show, and I have to say it was incredible. I have seen him with the band, and I agree they create a fuller sound. However, this show was really great. Damien started off very engrossed in his music, and didn't say a word for the first 6 songs. Then, because of the unfortunate heat, he really started to loosen up. It seemed we were all bonding because we were all stuck in an unairconditioned hall on a day that was 35 degrees C. He actually commented on that, saying "he felt very close to all of us." The sweatier he got (his clothes were literally soaked right through), the funnier he became. After not talking at all at the beginning, he started telling stories, and joking. He seemed to be having a wonderful time. People would shout out things like "you're so hot," and he would say "yes, I am very, very hot." The first encore was very entertaining. And then, even though the venue lights came on and people started to leave, the cheering was so enthusiastic, that he came on again for the second encore. He really seemed to have a fun time, and sounded great.

A man from the crowd yelled out, "I want you Damien!!!" and Damien hesitated, took a deep breath and said, "310-4547..." to the delight and laughter of the crowd. any sign of shyness on his part was pushed aside from cheers darlin' on.
the opener's name was adrianna pierce or something along those lines, i thought she was nervous as well but overall i still liked her sound minus the first song acapella. i believe her record could sound very good with a band and everything. |

from anything i heard so far it must have been great.
i don't know what i would do without all of you writing reviews and putting records on youtube. like that i am at least able to kind of get the feeling of being at a concert, you see though i probably shouldn't loose myself too much in music again or otherwise i'll once more bump into door frames and these sort of things anyway, thanks once again, you're really helping me out of this clouded place of "concertlessness" |

Oh my. Yes. That was me. It was that noticeable?! Wow. I definitely didn't expect that. Where were you sitting?
I think the next time (and there will be a next time!) I see him, I'll lay off on the camera and just "be in the moment with him", like he wanted us to. But... I've been waiting to see him for about 2 years now, and this was my first DR concert, so... I couldn't help myself! |
