the bit in "I Remember"</span>: "I remember December"</span> always makes me sad, becuase i think about what might have happened in that December...

also all of The Frames' "Angel at my Table"</span>:

"There's an angel at my table
And she broke her wings
She's packed her things
She said I'm the only one she'll turn to</font>
But there's a devil on my shoulder
And he's telling me she's so beautiful
That I should go up there and hold up
She's looking on</font>
How can I stay here
It wouldn't be what she wants
And I'm trying to break it easy
But she's pleading with me</font>
Will you be my anchor
When there is no-one around to hold me down
Will you be my anchor
I know you're not the answer</font>
There's an angel at my table
And she's blessed the breeze
That blows in between her and everything
She's left in that (heaven)
And I wish she'd call
'Cause that devil's on my shoulder
And he's pulling me down
And I'm trying to keep a balance
But she's begging me</font>
Will you be my anchor
When there is no-one around to hold me down
Will you be my anchor
I know you're not the answer</font>
There's an angel at my table
She said I'm the only one she'll turn to"</font>

Martin Finke "Other Men"
"Our house is made of quarry stones and mortar rich as much
Brave block stones brought from Mayo in a truck
And it's not going sailing, it's far too well endeared
To this wet blowing field, to all our neighbours' dreams"

Blink "Going To Nepal"
"Mister Magoo, tell Betty Boo,
I bought most of your records,
But I stopped at number two."

Whipping Boy "When We Were Young"
"With a start he was awoken
From the middle of a dream
He's making movies in his head
That never will be seen"

Mic Christopher "Kids Song"
"How come that boy's not like me?
What colour me does he see?
Well they say that he's blue
I think he colours my room when he comes"

Mundy "Gin & Tonic Sky"
"I was my own man now, a soldier on a battle field,
A grain of sand on a gold dust beach,
A one man band with an empty open hand,
A one man band with an empty open hand"

Lover, you should have come over by Jeff is an obvious selection for me. Another one is A Perfect Sonnet by Bright Eyes. Here goes:

lately i've been wishing i had one desire
something that would make me never want another
something that would make it so that nothing matters
all would be clear then
but i guess i'll have to settle for a for a few brief moments
and watch all dissolve into a single second
and try to write it down into a perfect sonnet
or one foolish line
because that's all that you'll get so you'll have to accept
you are here and then you're gone

but i believe that lovers should be tied together and
thrown into the ocean in the worst of weather
and left there to drown
left there to drown
in their innocence
but as for me i'm coming to the final chapter
i read all of the pages and there is still no answer
only all that was before i know must soon come after
that is the only way it can be
so i stand in the sun
and i breathe with my lungs
trying to spare myself the weight of the truth

saying everything you have ever seen was just a mirror
and you've spent your whole life sweating in an endless fever
and now you are laying ina bathtum full of freezing water
wishing you were a ghost
but once you knew a girl and you named her lover
and danced with her in kitchens through the greenest summer
but autumn came, she disappeared
you don't remember where she said she was going to
but you know that she is gone because she left you a song
that you don't want to sing

we're singing i believe that lovers should be chained together
and thrown into a fire with their songs and letters
and left there to burn in their arrogance
but as for me i'm coming to my final failure
i've killed myself with changes trying to make it better
but i still ended up becoming something other than what i had planned to be

now i believe that lovers should be draped in flowers
and layed entwined together on a bed of clover
and left there to sleep
left there to dream of their happiness

Can't pick a favorite song.

One of my all-time favorite Lyrics is from "Cooling" by Tori Amos:

"Is your place in Heaven worth giving up these kisses?"

Damien Rice, Fool-

And if you're gonna stay
I'll place you high upon a hill
And with my hands
I'll build a tower in your name
And you will do the same
Won't you my love?
Won't you my love?

I Remember-

And my ships were sailing..

Leonard Cohen, Hallelujah-

Well it goes like this, the fourth the fifth
The minor fall and the major lift

Bell x1, Eve-

You left, I diedEdited by: aoifedb

There's a sign on the wall, but she wants to be sure, cause you know sometimes words have2 meanings - Led Zep

Leave me out with the waste, this is not what I do, it's the wrong kind of place, to be thinking of you - Damien Rice

So many to choose from. This may not be my absolute favorite but it's the first that comes to mind.

In the garden Snake was a charmin'
And Eve said let's give it a try
Now lead us not into temptation
But no matter how hard I try
When in the garden and
Snake is a charmin'
And Eve says let's give it a try
Eve is the apple of my eye

"I gave me away
I could have knocked off the evening
But I was lonelily looking for someone to hold
In a way I lost all I believed in
And I never found myself so low
And you let me down
You could've called if you'd needed
But you lonelily got yourself locked instead
And you let me down
It's one thing being cheated
But you took him all the way through your bed"

how much more can one person relate so well with some lyrics?

OOOOOOHHHH! i got the chills reading those words again. that man can just say things in a way that...oh! he just cuts to the bones... lemonfreshsmurf, i think you stole my favourite song! well, the good thing about music is that we can share it, right? ...

actually, this song has helped me through some very difficoult times. many of dave's songs has. in fact, i'm not entirely sure i'd be alive without his songs. i'd forgotten about this for a while, because i have been exploring new music - thanks for reminding me of 'old' dave, really! think i need to listen to the 'flesh' and 'a century ends' albums right now....Edited by: supercille
