Grey Room Review
Haven't heard the new recording, but I don't think the review just posted really got the song. It may be dour and grey at the beginning...until he figures out that he's been totally self absorbed and should have been focused on the other person and their problems. For all his trouble, he's got his friendship and love for the other person to get them both through whatever the problem is. Damo said as much in live concert, when he played at the Troubadour two years ago.
Some of the lyrics are actually kind of awkward as far as a song goes, but they are as much about discovery of inner strength and compassion, the kind of lightning bolt understanding that leads to growth and maturity as they are about healing, and the story arc work. Top it off with Damien's unique ability to build tension, then crescendo into release and forgiveness..."warmer than warm yeah, warmer than warm." Beautiful song. |

I take it you're talking about the HotPress preview, rather than the EskimoFriends review on the news page?
