Anyways, anyone know what this song is about? The lyrics start off delightful and sweet, then turn into a downward spyral of lost love and forced explanation.
What's the true meaning of this song? Why the sudden contrast between the two vocals? Either way, it's beautiful. One of those powerful tracks out of the album. |

It's my favourite... I first wondered if it was one or 2 songs! I love songs that "develop", that start and end differently...

OOOOH, i know this one. So anyway Damien said that he was going out with this girl and he decided to write her a song, and he really really liked her, so he wrote the song and off he went to play it for her, and when he got to her house... she dumped him before he got to play it. So he was walking home all sad and stuff, and as he was walking the second half of the song fell out of him (as good songs often tend to). Then the band were in studio or something and lisa heard him playing the first half and said "oh that's very good", then vyvienne heard him playing the second half and said "oh that's very good", so he decided to put the song on the album, but couldnt decide which bit to put on and then came up with the idea of just having both there. Thus making I Remember the incredible epic twisted journey it is today.

When he was in Portland Oregon last year he told us that he was writing a lovely song about a lovely girl and things started to go terribly wrong so he wrote a very angry song and pasted it on the end... He also added "When loves goes bad, you turn to porn"....

At the Olympia gig on the night of his birthday in '02 he said he wrote the song when he was on the way home from a GAA club and was really happy with a girl he was with at the time... he then proceeded to sing a happy cersion of the first verse in a mock Irish country accent...then he said she killed his pet frog and the song became very angry so he played the first verse again really heavy. Anyhoo, he then went on to say that one night when they were all in a boathouse down in Kerry he was plucking away at his guitar at about 3 or 4am and started playing the song by accident and Lisa and Vyvienne really liked it so Lisa asked him could she play it one night at Whelan's and that was when they started playing it regularly...
long story but he's told more or less the same version before singing the song at a few concerts. The bit about the girl killing his pet frog was new though! I'd say it was more that she dumped him or something. Can't imagine Damien with a pet frog (or a girl killing his pet frog for that matter!) edit: oh yeah, he also broke into Can't Get You Outta My Head by Kylie at the end of the song at the same gig!Edited by: spiff

Hey, now we're on the subjest of meanings... There's something I don't understand: what is a ribbon of green? (in "cheers darlin")

I believe we have discussed this once before and came to two possible answers.. Either a ribbon of green representing jealousy... Or Green representing Ireland??

I absolutely love I Remember, such powerful emotions going on there, I get some strange looks tho, as when I play it in my car I have to have it really really loud and I also tend to sing along hehe

wow...thanks for the info bumpman.. the way you explained it made me think about the movie the wedding singer with adam sandler.. in it he starts off singing a really soft song about how much he loves his ex-fiancee, and then he goes into the heavy metalish song where he sings 'somebody kill me please' over and over again cuz he wrote the song how damien did,.. half before the breakup, half after. blah..kinda off topic, but anyone whos seen the wedding singer might find it funny *shrugs* |

How about we start a topic...make it sticky so it stays at the top of the forum or we get Emmett to put a page on the site with the meanings of the songs...or even get a forum where you can discuss meanings of the songs etc...no? It's just a thought, but I think it would be cool...it's something I'd like to talk about more....

Definitely! I agree! It's like "you cut her hair", I never understood what it could possibly be about. Hang on, it's not a song by Damien. Oops!
