OK, here's my story.
A friend of mine, Elyse, told me that she had this album that she thought I would like. We'd had a few discussions about music at school, and it turns out we have quite similar tastes. So anyway, she goes to her bag and takes out "O"... or rather, the album case but no CD! I'd never heard of Damien Rice before, so that night I looked him up on a couple of websites, who compared him to David Gray. This sort of put me off a bit, as (although I've got "White Ladder" and "New Day at Midnight") he's a bit samey. Needless to say, when I did get the CD the next day, it blew me away. I must have listened to it non-stop for a good five hours. Unlike other albums, every single song stayed in my head. It amazed me how I had got through the two-ish years since the album was released without hearing any of it before. You all know just how breath-taking the album is. I just couldn't stop thinking about every song - the clinking glasses of "Cheers Darlin'", the beautiful introduction to "I Remember", the explosion of emotion in "Eskimo"'s operatic burst. Amazing. Thank you for reading this far! Bozz |

I love coldplay too. The first time I heard Damien was on VH1 Hits.
It's an all music channel that I get (like what MTV used to be). They played the AOL Sessions video of 'Volcano', and I absolutely loved it. The song was stuck in my head for ages, until I finally downloaded the song and listened to it religiously for about a year. I never listened to any of his other songs because I thought that there would be no way that he had a better song than 'Volcano'. But then I finally bought 'O' and was completely blown away. I couldn't believe how wrong I was. All his songs are amazing. I really hope that some day he comes to my area of the US, I'd give anything to go. |

I knew "Cannonball" from the radio and thought it was OK but nothing too special. Checked out the official website and fell in love with his live version! I love all his live songs but now I own the album too.

First time I heard him was in Juniper but I suppose that doesn't really count in this thread, but I took an interest in him 'cos we shared the same surname. Then Juniper broke up and there was no news from any of them for a good year.
Then around August/Sep. 2001 a friend was sending me some live Frames songs online and also there was an MP3 of 'The Blower's Daughter' from the UnderCurrents compilation. The song grew and grew on me and then he released his first single and I got to hear the angry songs like The Professor and Moody Mooday and thought it was good. Went to see him play live in Kilkenny then around Oct./Nov. 2001 and then again around the launch of 'O' in February 2002. And it's been going ever since...Edited by: Loveless

The first time I saw Damien Rice was at Earth Spirit, 2001, in the UK, at The Small World Solar Stage. I was hanging out with Alan O' Rourke, as we had played on this stage ourselves, and we were blown away by the power, the beauty and the intimacy of Damien and Lisa in The Small World Tent. Does ayone else remember that night?
