Default Guitar Soloing....

Hey guys....so I was wondering....Has anyone got any tips for how to build a good guitar solo, or any tricks of the trade with regard to what scales one can solo on that sound particularly effective for different keys etc? Any info would be much appreciated!

The pentatonic minor usually works for me and most other people. It's very widely used though.

just the other day i was googling on guitar solos because i noticed a lot of my downloaded tracks have '100 greatest guitar solos' in the file name and i came across this:

http://guitar.about.com/library/bl100greatest.htm

it's a list compiled by guitar world magazine of the top guitar solos (rock genre primarily) but this link is cool because it has links to tabs for every song! i dunno maybe looking them over or playing around with the structures and progressions might help in building your own solos? just a thought

Theres two methods really at the end of the day if you know your minor pentatonic you can get out and start soloing as long as you have the technique, but that leads to generic solos, i think the best way is too learn lots of scales modes etc and mix it all up. Im a strong believer that a guitarist should learn other peoples solos, that way you learn other peoples technique and style that can be brought into your own solos as well as unintentionally picking up scales and licks. Its all just a matter of time and practice

i used to be a solo fanatic. Until i grew up to find that its not really my thing anymore. I just dont think it shows much skill. I mean anyone can twiddle their fingers mindlessly all over the fretboard. You can't really make mistakes on solos either. So really, im all about consistency and structure to impress me technically.

Hey

When the Pentatonic Minor is used, is it used over the Major Scale chords?

So, is it usually a C Minor Pentatonic scale played over a C Major chords?

Is a Pent. Minor solo usually played over the minor scale chords?
