strange and unusual instruments
i was browsing videos on youtube and came across this one of the late michael "the guitarist from another planet" hedges playing a harp guitar..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTC7k...chael%20hedges i guess this instrument has been around for awhile but i don't remember seeing it used much (i vaguely remember robbie robertson from the band having one) and it's different than just a double neck guitar like jimmy page played, tho he may have had a harp guitar too.. i just think it's very unigue and has a cool sound.. |

one of my professors showed the class a recording of a joke piece performed a long time ago. it had vaccuum cleaners and what not. there was a picture on the record of a guy with a sub contra bassoon. it was enormous, but i guess it's a real instrument. it was probably the only one ever made. you couldn't walk with it, and i doubt it could get through many doors.

I saw a few guys plaing an instrument not disimilar to that one. It was like a mandonlin which had a full length neck with like a head and everything, then out of the head where all the machine head were bent another neck which rose to a full length too. It's hard to explain but the effect was the same, deep bass notes and twidly high bits over the top.
So it was like that, but a mandonlin with a single bent neck. Absolutley fascinating to watch.
