Default looking for lyrics of a trad song...

but i don't know what it's called. i heard it a few times at some sessions, so i can vaguely remember the start of it... maybe someone of you knows it and has the lyrics to it? i don't have it in any of my songbooks... so help would be appreciated

so, the part that i can remember is:

do you love an apple
do you love a pear
do you love a laddie/lassie
with curly brown hair

yes, i love him, i can't deny him,
i will go with him where ever he goes.

it's quite a cute little song and i'd love to have it, so, please, please help me!

Do you love an apple? Do you love a pear?
Do you love a laddie with curly brown hair?

Yes, I love him, can't deny him,
I'll go with him where ever he goes.

He works in the pityard for nine bob a week
But Saturday night he comes rollin' home drunk

Still I love him, I'll forgive him
I'll go with him wherever he goes.

When I was single I wore a plaid shawl
Now that I've married, I wear none at all

Still.....

He stands at the corner a smoke in his mouth,
His hands in his pockets, his whistles me out

Still I love him, I'll forgive him
I'll go with him wherever he goes

When I was single I'd sport and I'd play,
But now how the cradle, it gets in my way.

He bought me a handkerchief red, white and blue
And then to clean windows he tore it in two

He took me to the alehouse and bought me some stout
Before I could drink it he ordered me out

(Google for president )

No problem If you do some more googling, you might find your version, too.

If you have any other irish trad. lyrics that you are searching for, just ask me, I have quite an archive in my head (and my books) both in English and Irish. (I'm mostly into ballads, though)

No, no that one. My Irish-language database is not that big. I have a great book by Brendán Ó Madagáin Keening and Other Old Irish Musics (If you're interested in these things, I'd recommend this book, its just great. Plus, it also has a cd with all the mentioned songs, sung by Madagáin himself), some small ditties like An Bhfaca Tú mo Sheamaisín and a few others from different recordings, but not much, unfortunately.

that's great! i checked out this earlier mentioned hp, and it has a few of the verses that i know. there's as well a link to (more or less?) the version that you posted there... you can have a look at it here if you want. my boyfriend has a songbook by the clancy brothers and i took some things with me as well from ireland, some of the touristy books and stuff, but sometimes they are quite useful... you just can't take them completely seriously most of the time...

i'm more into ballads myself, i love to sing 'mary hamilton' and then as well 'the wind that shakes the barley'... i'm learning some other things as well at the moment, so i'll see where i end with which songs... are you doing some music yourself!

timmy, i'm coming to ireland! are you around up there around the 17th/18th of july?

I'm doing some music, some woodwinds and a bit of singing, but I have a lot to improve in both of them. At the moment, I'm working on a contribution to the Eskimo Album, probably an improvised flute-piece or try some sean-nós.

Probably my favourtie ballad would be For Ireland I won't Tell her Name (Ar Eirinn ní neosfainn cé hí). And, of course, On Raglan Road, which is one best poems ever written by anyone, incuding T.S. Eliot paired with one of the oldest and most beautiful tunes. Unfortunately it was originally sung by Luke Kelly, and that makes every other attempt a bit futile.
