<DIV>I write my ideas on the first bit of paper I find, and once they're refined, I file them in a folder that's sectioned with different emotions and themes (happy; dark; love; relationships; break-ups; experiences and stuff)... Hopefully something will come together... </DIV>

I write all the time. Sometimes a poem or song will come out of it but usually it's nothing. I just write to process events and thoughts and feelings with myself. I've kept a journal since I was 10. I like the smaller notebooks (6 x 8) better than the bigger ones. My thoughts just seem to fit better on those size pages. Sometimes I buy the clothbound or embossed ones from the bookstore or sometimes just the cheap spiral notebook kind from Wal-Mart. Though come to think of it I am more inclined to write in the nicer ones.

usually cigarette packets or napkins to start with as I'm normally out (by out I mean in the pub) when I get the ideas - beer mats are a good one - I have now got the fav song I've written inscribed on my guitar

After the initial process I right them on a4 and keep them in a binder

i usually write them in a small book. but sometimes i don't have it with me, and i have to write it on a note, which i later put in the book, just to keep it all just a tad organized. if i have an idea for a melody i sing it onto my old analogue microcassette recorder. if i don't have that with me i sometimes call my answering machine and sing to myself like that, sort of.

one's voice sounds pretty cool through the phone+answering machine, actually

when i started seriously writing, my grandfather gave me a moleskine pocket notebook, and it is one of my favorite things ever. i'vegone through several, butit issturdy, portable,it has an elastic band that holds it shut and keeps the pages from getting crinkled, and there's even a pocket in the back to stick those loose notes written on napkins and whatnot. i generally don't write my lyrics in it becauseconstant revision makes them look kind of messy and i'm kind of anal, but i write most everything else in it.

they're not ungodly expensive. i bought my last one at a shop in seattle (the pocket size) for $9. but they will seriously last forever, so it's certainly worth the investment.

the van gogh ones are very cool - i'd never looked beyond the plain black ones. oh well, there's always the next notebook...

i dunno, random stuff that's nearby really. i used to use a wee
notebook a woman i know gave me, but i don't use it anymore cos well i
don't bring it with me. the other day it was so great, i started
strumming away at a tune i had just made up and the words just fell
out.
