I think there is a line in Accidental babies that is similar to Dive Into Moss, the one about the garden... that's why I might have made the connection

Difference is though, Me, My Yoke, and I, for example - is about f*cking. Accidental Babies is about making love. God I love that song.

What do you guys make of the reference to the elephant on the Professor ?? Is it used in the same way as in elephant (the song)?? And what shakes the elephant now And what makes a man? -- Professor But you can't paint an elephant Quite as good as she -- elephant

^ I've wondered the same thing before regarding 'Elephant' and also 'Animals'...
IMO, Elephant in The Professor is a sex reference = Male sex But in Elephant, I think it refers to the drawing in the Cannonball single that Lisa did herself. I had this theory that in The Professor, elephant = male sex and animal = female sex. That leads me to 'The animals were gone', not sure if he's talking about pets or if he's saying that all the women in his life are gone You don't need a lot of imagination to figure out what xtube is

Ah now see, I think in the Professor he's talking about an elephant as a metaphor for a man (himself) who appears strong but in fact isn't.
My basis for this is something he said before a performance of 'elephant' once, I forget which one. But he says he's fascinated by the idea of the elephant being the biggest and strongest creature known to man, and yet it is scared by a mouse. So I think when he says 'what shakes the elephant' he means, how far can I be pushed before I get scared and run.

^ I agree with your interpr of the elephant in The Professor. That's what I was meaning in my last post, I always saw it as Elephant/Male and Animals/Females... But do you think it's also the same meaning in Elephant?
As I said, IMO the elephant line in Elephant is literal because Lisa did paint it in real life and really refers to the artwork for the single... and Hollie, what's your take on the Animals???

Animals... I just don't know on that one. There's the obvious reference to Accidental Babies so chances are it's about the same person that is... but I don't know what he means by the animals were gone. I like your idea though of it being the women in his life. Do you know, I get this feeling that a lot of his songs are all about the same woman, perhaps the BD. Obviously, BD is about her, he has also said I Remember is about her, and Elephant, you know... I think she must have really f*cked him over and made him really angry...

I also think most of his post-Juniper songs are about the same woman, the blower's daughter
Cannonball, Delicate, The blower's daughter, Acc babies, Elephant, Rootless tree, and so on. And I don't buy the clarinet teacher's daughter story at all, that's bull**** IMHO. and I'm 99.9% convinced that she's Lisa.
