favorite language for music

for those of you who are bi-or multilingual, what is your favorite language to listen to music in? your native tongues, or another?

Rue Saint-Denis 09-07-2007 09:50 PM

Easily English.

Rai 09-07-2007 10:04 PM

I mostly listen to English music and lyrics-wise, its probably the best. But nothing can beat Portuguese in the sheer beauty of the sound of it (only when ung, though). Plus, arabic is just cool in music. And I still didn't mention Irish... Argh, this question is too much for a language-maniac like me :D

mariaoran 09-07-2007 10:32 PM

mmmm ... i listen to mostly english music and its quite alright!... but I luuuuv to listen to Spanish and French music... suuuper romantic, just two beautiful languages! :)

I agree... portuguese has a beautiful sound to it! ... beyond the lyrics the pronunciation of the words is lovely

hehe to sum it up.... i think my favourite is spanish/ french ... but i english is a must... i mean we have Damien!! :):)

verenita 09-10-2007 02:29 PM

it´s funny... we (my friends and i) were talking about this issue yesterday...
i´m from argentina, so we speak spanish... they say they didn´t like english music at all... they counted how many song in english they have... just a few...

on the other side... i (almost) have no song in spanish (no local artist, actually) in my discography... so, i think my favourite language for music is english... in fact, i learnt this languange (by my own) listening english music and reading the lyrics...

oh, i think this is too long for a simple question, he he

.em. 09-10-2007 06:43 PM

I'm pretty sure 96% of the music I listen to is in Japanese. o.o
I really enjoy it, though my understanding of it is very basic. If anyone wants me to, I will recommend artists~~like Utada Hikaru!
I also enjoy English-sung songs though (of course). I also think Chinese can be very pretty too--especially when its Faye Wong singing.

Calum 09-10-2007 07:07 PM

Spanish songs always seem to please me.

Emelie 09-10-2007 07:42 PM

Swedish songs.. Well there's only really one badn that can sing in swedish without it being corny for me: kent.
So almost everything I listen to is in english, but I really, really like icelandic and french as well! And some songs in spanish.. Hey I'm really multilingual :P

Hendrik 09-10-2007 08:11 PM

Deutsch and English, obviously. But I can also listen to Spanish or French.

cille 09-10-2007 08:40 PM

English, but I'm not sure if that's just because that's the original language of rock n roll. But Swedish sounds good too. Danish sounds like puke.

hazey 09-10-2007 09:00 PM

If the following counts as a language, then Björk and Kristin Anna (ex múm) English with a thick Icelandic accent. Or just plain jibberish language, sometimes consisting of vowels, shouts, screams and yelps (Animal Collective and Tim Buckley) or made up words (Björk, again..she's the jibberish queen).

Other than that, Portuguese is a really beautiful language to listen too. God bless bossa nova and fado.

soda 09-10-2007 09:16 PM

I agree Hazey, Portuguese is lovely and flowing.

My native Dutch sounds like you have something stuck in your throat.

genzoman 09-10-2007 09:54 PM

english for me. partly because its the language of rock and roll, partly for the cadence, and partly because it doesnt really have any real patterns in grammar. very dynamic/frustrating

/pero me gusta español también. sólo si la es cantado lentemnte.

Emelie 09-11-2007 02:00 PM

Ooh! Don't forget hopelandic, perhaps my favourite of all! <3 Sigur Rós

Agree on Bjork, I love how she pronounces the 'r', like when she sings 'hearrrrrrrrt' in Unravel... or when she says 'grrrrrrrazzzzzzzzias' ;)

I think musically the most beautiful is Portuguese, especially the Rio dialect/prinunciation... Just remembered this clip, the Blower's Daughter cover in Portuguese:

I prefer Portuguese Portuguese, its just has a more twisted pronunciation :)

audity 09-15-2007 03:00 PM

Irish, Portuguese, French, Icelandic, and Yiddish. I do like J-pop.

i agree, portuguese is a beautiful language :)

Rue Saint-Denis 09-16-2007 11:24 PM

After a few raps with my sister, I've noticed that it is very interesting, and fun, to rap in french. You really should give it a try if you speak french, even the slightest bit.

I'm not too sure the lyrics are good though! :icon_scra

Rue Saint-Denis 09-23-2007 04:54 PM

Yeah, they completely changed the lyrics.

mariaoran 09-23-2007 05:05 PM

^... yeah and some of it works but there's parts in which the words they chose don't work so well :smiley5:

I do have to say that their voices are looooovely!!! :)

Just saw this now....thanks for the link SisterMidnight! Marti sent me in that direction and I was actually thinking of bumping it in case anyone else hadn't seen it.....such a beautiful song, it puts me in a great mood without even understanding the language:)!

damien lisa 09-16-2014 11:37 AM

english, then french

Voxi 09-25-2014 06:27 PM

As my favourite bands and musician are from English speaking territories, I prefere English then. But for me the most beautiful language in music is Portuguese. Even though I understand so little.
Also, since I've studied Italian language I love to listen music on Italian.
Specially Jovanotti who is my favourite Italian musician even he doesn't sing so as he is reciting :D

This song "Mi fido di te" has so beautiful energy, sound, lyrics. Love it.
