Default Bono

I figured this site might be the one place were i could vent my frustration without being scoulded and told im evil.

I HATE bono. I cant stand the man. Every time i see him on television i just want to strangle him with my bare hands. My blood boils. I swear a him on my sofa. I gesture at the screen.

The occasional worthy plight to Africa aside, i hate the pretentious nob. What the hell is up with those glasses?
And if he was so against Abu Ghraib as shown in San Diego, why the hell did the hypocrit GIVE his song to Tony Blair as the themetune to get re-elected? What a complete idiot.

But the moment that got me beyond the point of disliking him was (i am catholic) he went up to the pope and gave him a book, then gave him his sunglasses. He didnt know a camera was filming him, and in a press conference later he said the potif had taken the glasses off Bono's face and put them on, making him "one funky pope". Errr...no...Bono... he didnt.

Grrrrrrrrrr.... please tell me someone agrees.

Plus, hes part of the "love can save the world" generation which is a pile of stinking nonesense.

I like U2, but I agree with you. I wouldn't say i hate him though, that'd be too harsh. And it can't be jealousy, that means that I'd hate every goddamn star on this earth, which I don't.

I kinda liked the way Bret Easton Ellis took the piss out of Bono in American Psycho - did you read that part?

that's kinda sad man... why not just let it go... if you don't like him then move on... you're not the first person here to post something like that... i disagree with you about 2000 percent... bono has inspired me in my life, as he has inspired millions of people... i find him to be as far from pretentious as you can get, and being a nerdish u2 fan i could tell you about 2 million stories of amazing things he does for people that is never publicised... and don't you dare call him a hypocrite for letting tony blair use a song in the election campaign... the other side used U2 songs in their campaign too... as happened in the last US election and as happens at every freakin' election everywhere... and you're saying the pope didn't put on his glasses? that's just not true... there was an irish catholic archibishop (or something like that) there who told the story too... maybe he's a liar too, maybe you're right... but in the end, who cares? go be cynical somewhere else, it's really tiring and pointless

i guess hes worth something then if you got inspired. Sorry, i was slagging him off too much. just saw him on Tv and had to let it out.

But you are wrong about him being as far away from pretentious as possible. He is INCREDIBLY pretentious. The glasses? The name? The way he wore that hat standing next to Blair at the Africa conference in early june(which was appalling). And the pope did not take off his glasses, ive seen the video. Have you?

Yea, i was being too harsh, but mate, i will "dare call him" whatever i like.

I look at bono in different ways...a musician, a politican, person, a renaissance man...he's cool in my books.

Bono has been named Time Magazine's Person of the Year (...along with Bill and Melinda Gates...).

BILL GATES? this has got to be a joke right? It has to be?

He gives about 2% of his wealth but my god.The man who made his millions selling overpriced software to the poor nations? (and complains when they pirate it) has the cheek to "ask" G8 leaders to help? Live 8 already lost its credibility the moment Bill Gates stood on stage with the organisers of the event. This is the same person that makes business deals with the corrupt governments in Asia and Africa. His company agrees to censor internet traffic in order to please oppressive regimes that controls and limits freedom of speech.

true, i wouldnt be typing on this computer now without him, but hopefully people can see my point

yeah he could give a lot more...but then again, he might give a lot less if it weren't for his wife pressuring him into it (notice how she was chosen too ).

she didnt exactly say, "gee Bill, why not stop helping brutal regiems and all, ykno.Just for a change."

But then i guess hed say "Oh but my dear, lm afraid then i wouldnt be a hypocrite and all my wall street buddies would loose some cash for their viagra and so on".

And then she'd say "Sorry my love, i forgot. The US spends more on an erection for our male citizens then on spending on AIDS treatment for Africa".

Then Bono would ring the doorbell that plays "money, money, money" and say "Bill, while im swimming in your pool, while we are playing darts and snooker, while your black waitress brings your food, lets talk about that song we can play behind you at live8 that will convince people you are a real good genuine guy."

I'm going to invoke Sleepy's Law here:

Homer: "He's the worst coach this team has ever had"
Marge: "He's the only coach this team is ever had!!"
Homer: "Yeah...well he's wearing that hat like an idiot"

What way should he wear a hat next to Blair??
As rock stars go, he's far from the most pretentious but hey he seems to be an easy target (for no apparent reason)....you're just being f*ckin bitter. Tbh you came off more pretentious with your high and mighty "I'll dare call him whatever I like".

For the record I'm not even a U2 fan so I feel no inclination to have to defend him

Im only expressing an opinion. And i am not bitter in the slightest. If that was true, like Hendrik said id be jealous of every famous activist.

So what do you mean by being bitter? Im afraid my friend, you too are being a wee pretentious by saying "only you can answer that".

I am ONLY expressing an opinion.

Not necessarily, and like I said he seems to be an easy target. Bob Geldof gets a similar amount of abuse, though obviously his music as renowned as U2's so people aren't as "sick of him" or whatever....

Oh I see what you did there...turning around what I said, like I did to you...very clever...have a biscuit. Or a Blue Peter Badge.

What do I mean by bitter? You're attacking the man's glasses, hat, his nickname? Did you know Damien also had a stage name? Do you hate him? He does plenty of charity work too. You pick on little things about Bono and discount the good work he does. Thats what I mean by bitter

Um, Thanks a lot.

I dont think anyone can rationally believe though that Live8 was a success and not a failure.

The deal on trade was terrible.

and i saw that round up of 2005 events in terms of ending poverty. Having a speech put of Blair? Where he says we must end the suffering? Talk about loosing credibility.
Why is no-one thinking of all the young life being murdered in Iraq? That video makes him look like a bleeding-heart humanitarian.

gordon it seems you have alot of anger bottled up

i dont think bono or bill gates are to blame at all

if anything the two of them are the main focus points at changing things
did u know bill and melinda gates have donated billions to charity? Maybe they are corrupt and greedy at times but they have set up a charity foundation that has itself saved thousands of lives...
yes its a small sum of their earnings but its not about quantity its about the fact of giving... Even if it is 2% of their earnings as someone else mentioned
its probably more than most people have given and you cannot pick on someone because they are famous or rich

Bono can be a bit cringeworthy and pretentious at times but he does more good than bad really at least he is TRYING to make a change in the world.. He may spout off insane things and be a bit pompus at times but he is making the world aware of the situation

If you dont like the guy thats a personal thing.. But you cannot damage his credibilty as i respect that he has the time and effort to try and make a change

oh and btw did live8 not set about cancelling the debts of over 40 billion pounds? - did it not succeed?
