Not very. His fame diminishes with every passing day that brings a sunrise and no new album.
The word on the street is 'Damien who?'

As far as people recognising his name, Damien isn't exactly experiencing a 'Beatlemania' of his own.
BUT, if you consider how many people have heard his music, he is very famous. I take my iPod everywhere and whenever someone does not know who I'm talking about I let them listen. I would say that 85% of people that I've met have heard 'Blower's Daughter' and about 70% have heard 'Cannonball.' I've seen pirated Damo CD's being sold in Thailand, China, Myanmar (even Unplayed Piano; if that is not ironic, then what is?), and yes, America. When I was in New York, a guy came running up to me and flashed me a sheet of CD titles. 'O - Damien Rice' was near the top of the list.

He is actually quite famous in the right circles.
Living in a suburb, he is one of the most popular artists in my school. He is not going to have a beetle mania though, because his music is not very commercial. Having said that, there are almost no people I know of that don't at least know who he is. |
