smartftp help!!

Technology is alien to me. I have succeeded in downloading Smartftp to my computer. It only took a few minutes despite being told there was over 1 hour remaining. Maybe I messed up. Anyhow, I entered damienrice.serveftp.net as the address, damien as the username and rice as the password, and pressed return. The server went through WAITING for about 30 seconds before settling on IDLE. Does that mean I need to wait or do I then need to try the procedure again. I have no idea what to expect when I do connect. Can somebody tell me what to do and expect? (Suggestions that I should give up will be ignored.)

Understanding it is difficult the first time you use an FTP client..the server may not be up, if it attempted to connect then you are half way there...just keep trying or try my ftp server.....it might be full though.....if it tells you that too many users are logged in then you are set...you just can't get in cause the limit has been met...if you get in then right click on the show and select download from the menu...it shoudl let you put the files where you want...

This is giving me a headache. I just got into your IPS address (24.195.247.88) and selected the first item I saw (damo2003-12-08d2t09.shn). It took 55 minutes to download the 12.6 MB. Then the only thing I got a chance to save was the notebook, which was a load of indecipherable stuff. Then I got a screen full of small pictures including one of the front of the 'O' album, and a few less savoury (frankly pornographic) ones, before I lost the lot. I saved the notebook thing to my c drive because it wouldn't allow me to use the D drive. This was all after the download. I did double click on the item rather than right click, if I remember correctly. What did I do wrong? How long does a typical download take so I know what to expect? is the thing I clicked on a concert?

I have no clue where or what pictures you are refering to.....that is kind of strange....regarding teh song...well there are 3 users dowloading at a time and you are in the UK so I am guessing we had a very slow conection...sorry about that..but ehy look on hte bright side you figured out how to use the FTP =) I think we need to get a Europe based person to host...any volunteers???

Thank you for all your advice, mmh947. I am still very confused, though. I do have a 12.6 MB SHN document in my c-drive that just shows up as gibberish on Notebook. I have downloaded mkwACT to make some sense of my SHN but I cannot figure out how to do anything else. It is really difficult to a complete novice. I am completely lost.
