Stereogum 9 Crimes
Stereogum.com (American Indie-scene music blog) have posted a review of 9 Crimes and a streaming sample here.
I can't decide whether it is a good or bad, as it uses irresistable and yuppie in the same description. Edit: Seems as though the commentors agree. It's more of a snide stab at a scene than an accurate review of the music. But it's all subjective so it's there if you want to look.

It does seem like they're reviewing the man more then the music. Poor journalism.

I hate reviews that concentrate on the people not the music or even worse ones that were done after maybe half listening to half the song once and then googling to find out what they can about the band.
There was a one for bell x1 that desribed them as unimaginitive and quoted about the only line in the song that wasn't that origonal and then slagged of paul noonan for his name. It got completely slated P.S. Thats a really cool avatar Cille

Agreeing with Mr Benn on two counts, yes I also hate half arsed reviewers. 2. Yes Cille does have a great avatar. What's it from?

^reg 2): It's from the most amazing TV series The Second Heimat created by Edgar Reitz. Bascally It's 13 full length films about a group of artists in the 60'ies' Munich. The two people in the avi love eachother but are afraid to give themselves to eachother, you know that good old story..

That sounds amazing!
I wish I could take credit for the sig, but it's those wise ol' words of Tobi Vail of Bikini Kill. I spread them where I can, because they're so bloody important!

Feminist punk group from early 90's Seattle (They were good friends with Nirvana - Smells like teen spirit was inspired by the singer) Started the Riot Grrl movement, which in short is pretty much a manifestation of my sig. Tobi Vail was the drummer, and she now sings in Spider and The Webs, and drums in The Go! Team. Worth checking out, even if you don't like the music, the message can't be faulted!

Possible we hate this reviewer because we think a tiny part of him is right or whatever? I mean, Damien's music is kind of the stuff you hear on the O.C and greys anatomy, unfortunatly.
This song, however, I doubt would fit on a American TV show, and thank God for that. I for one, am very thankful that Damien has left off touring or interviews for the time being, meaning it will be harder for his music to be prostituted and raped like it was for O to a period. I will put his head into a bucket of old, dried donkey semen though if he changes Rootless Tree to something like "Muck you, Muck you, Muck you and all we've been through" to appease the teenybobbers who sing at his gigs and ruin it for everyone. Damien has also wished his music is kept under the radar and not too well known, but then he does have himself to blame when he goes on letterman etc. I also dislike it for personal reasons, and selfish reasons, mearly because his music is incredibly intimate, and I feel I just cant enjoy it when certain lyrics are taken out of context and are being raped and prostituted in TV shows all over the globe. I also dont like the idea of millions of people listening to it really, it really detracts the intimacy. But these, as I said are just selfish reasons. I'm not sure why people dont get me when I say this, and it is interesting how Irish people always seem to disagree. It's odd. Maybe it's just inherent in you lot to want your acts to succeed. |

Worst review ever from the worst reviewer ever!
The moron probably used a thesaurus to direct whether the review was going to be positive or negative. Another complaint is that Damien has been making great music before anyone knew who Zach Braff was.

^ True, his music wasn't in 'Garden State' or 'Scrubs' for that matter or the 'Last Kiss.'
Damien is feautured on Braff's iTunes celeb playlist... Damien is technically 'Braff-rock' because Zach describes his taste as "acoustic alternative"

Damien was before Braff. And Damien will be after Braff.
(lol...sounds like the Alpha and the Omega in the Bible)

i concur with closing^. i think its quite selfish to think you could have damiens music to yourself and would you have heard it if it werent for marketing alone?
because it is all marketing. mainstream is fine.

Um...Calm yourself, Jarmuschrules. I don't think anyone was addressing any comments at you personally. People were just having a debate, which is pretty much the point of an internet forum
