Default Sleep Don't Weep, love it or hate it?

Been talking with some people about this song, and I get the feeling it's a love/hate thing for a lot of people.

I totally love it, it's the perfect album ending IMO. Love the music, in the beginning I thought it was too similar to Cold Water, but don't see it anymore. And I think the lyrics are really sweet...

so who loves it/likes it/dislikes it/hates it??

Its Cold Water light for me and CW isn't my favourite Damien song by far. Sleep fails to grab my attention, i don't hate it, I just can't feel anything, which i sometimes worse.

I completely agree with you! Although, I might be a bit more partial to Cold Water than you seem to be! But, no.. Not my favourite of songs!

I think with most Damien songs you have to be in the emotion that he's singing about to really appreciate them. So unless you've had a really terrible day 'Sleep don't weep' won't make sense. But when you've had a day like that it can be really healing.

I dont love it or hate it. It's just boring. The music is quite dull and the lyrics are not very good either. It's probably my least favorite song from 9, and I already dont love most of it.

I Agree. Most of Damien's melancholy (sp?) music was with me during some tough relationship drama I've been through. now it kind of serves more as nostalgic music.

In all, Sleeps is a great track during a horrible time, and a horrible track during great time.

I love both Sleep Don't Weep and the Tibetan singing bowl. In fact, i have to listen to the whole 20 something minutes of it. It's just one of those things that just clicks, and Wheels is right in what he said, but only at times i think; some songs can always do something for you.
But yes, i find it absolutely beautiful and moving, all the time.

Hmm have always loved it. Wouldn't say though as others have that it was really depressing, I think it's more uplifting than depressing, esp compared to some of his. Okay, not uplifting like I'm jubilant afterwards, but has an odd hope to it. I think it builds more than Cold Water.

I hated that Grey's Anatomy ruined it. But anyway.

I like it. Don't love it. Certainly don't hate it. I love the last bit Lisa sings about her day being tough. I wish he'd done more with the tibetan bell other than just let it ring and ring, he could chant or something, build up something interestingly spacey.

I absolutely love it. I loved it the first time I heard it. I have to say though , found it very hard to listen to after Lisa left the band. But It's back in rotation now...

Waves to Melissa.. Cheers..

hello lovely one, it's good to see you! *waves back* cheers julia

i saw someone post on damien's myspace once that they played sleep don't weep at their baby daughter's funeral. that must have been heartbreaking..

i think it's a beautiful song, it's soothing and a perfect lullaby, you just have to slow down a little bit to appreciate it. the tempo is almost painfully slow at times, but that gives it an even more intense anesthetic effect. so okay it's not an upper, but it's a sweet painkiller..

and i love the tibetan singing bowl, i actually go into lotus position as soon as it starts and meditate (unless i'm driving, of course)

^haha, I always see things on my inner film when people tell me something, and that last image of you meditating while driving because the tibetan singing bowl is on the car stereo tickled my funny bone

The part of the song being played at a baby funeral - heartbreaking! But very suitable, I think! Gives me chills to think about it

yep im defiantly in the love wagon.

at first i wasnt really that impressed with it, but after many listens ive found it to be such a beautiful song, with such an amazing dreamy atmosphere.

also, the part where lisa comes in with damien to sing "sleep, dont weep" for the first time is probably my favourite 4 seconds of damien rice ever, its just perfect!

the song also reminds me of Florida, which is my favorite place in the world, so that helps

I suppose it's the Marmite of the 9 album... Love or hate it?

I personally love marmite... And this song... And the tibetan singing bowl is a love of mine. <3

Heretic. You will be strapped to a marmite soldier and dipped into the great yolk of insolence for that.

That's scarily reminiscent of something a jehovah's witness told me in London when i said i wasn't interested in his leaflet! Of course, there was no marmite soldier mentioned and the yolk of insolence was described as fire............

well, it probably wouldn't be a good idea unless i was driving with my 3rd eye

try meditating to the end of the song, cilly, it's very calming.. though you're right, some buddhist chanting from damo at the end would have been cool as well..
