RTÉ Two on Wednesday 27 December at 11.20pm
Damien Rice to do RTÉ Christmas special
Singer-songwriter Damien Rice has recorded a special 'Other Voices' show for broadcast on RTÉ this Christmas. In November Rice released his long-awaited second album, '9', the follow-up to the bestselling 'O'. He was one of the artists that travelled to Dingle at the start of December to record sets for the fifth series of 'Other Voices', which is due for broadcast in early 2007. Presented by John Kelly, 'Two Sounds: Other Voices: Damien Rice Special' will be shown on RTÉ Two at 11.20pm on Wednesday 27 December. If someone will make me a copy of this show on DVD I'll be happy to make you a copy of my 29/08/2006 Vicar Street gig on DVD. This is what's on the DVD: These full performances: 01. I Remember 02. Rootless Tree 03. Delicate 04. Me, My Yoke And I 05. Woman Like A Man 06. Nine Crimes 07. Insane Samples can be viewed at: PART 1 PART 2 |

Will anyone be recording this tonight? Wish I could get RTÉ... I need to write to SKY, get them to sort out an Irish TV package to subscribe to - wouldn't that be grand!

I found Damien really depressing, especially in the solo spots he did.
Have to say those were downers. The band stuff was okay but I missed Vyv. Looking forward to Lisa's show. |

i feel damien doesn't like his music anymore.
he called it "disposable" .... i think he longs happier songs and is struggling to find them. i didnt think it was ****ing special. it didnt hit me that way.

Its intriguing how opinion can be polarised so much. I sincerely hope its not a replica of the lacklustre Channel 4 performance. What tracks where played?

maybe something was lost in translation from live gig to tv spot |

There was absolutely nothing bad about it, I thought it was genuinely fantastic. But for anyone who's stateside, the mixed reaction will probably give you some insight into why there's been one show to support 9 over here. Here, everyone's great until they do something, then they become passé.

he did seem pretty depressed when talking about his music which was kind of a downer but i liked some of the songs, especially rat within the grain and sand- 2 amazing tracks he should have released on the albums. I think Viv was a big loss to the set but it was hardly a terrible performance.
Dont think it can be compared to something like BBC4 Sessions though- I think the camerawork and stuff didn't help- it just didn't capture the emotions and at times the crowd didnt seem into it at all and that damo was just singing to himself- for instance when he had to tell them the song was over |

It wasn't a bad performance. Everyone played well but you know how some nights Damien is loose, comfortable and seems to be enjoying himself? This was not one of those. Especially the solo tunes in the different venue and the chat with John Kelly (the host). He looked like someone had just run over his puppy.
I'm not giving the typical "I knew him when" Irish kind of slagging. I've seen him recently and thought he and the band were wonderful just not this night. |

Personally I thought it was a great set. Yeah I've seen him play better but so what? I just really enjoyed this one, and for me that's enough! Thanks for the recording Seán. Don't suppose anyone did commit it to DVD?

How anyone could look at last night's performance of "Elephant" and not see something special in there is beyond me.

I'll have it on DVD pretty soon, but I figured people might just want a quick transfer to mp3 to see what it was like.

oh my this is the most depressing thread ever. lol..
Thank you so much Seán for sharing. It was beautiful. Some people are so hard to please. Why not just be happy that you can hear Damien once again live doing what he loves, doing what we love. Hmmmm.. Nope , don't get it....
