Chicago was a bust.
So Damien played 5 or 6 songs, then said he felt too sick to continue playing, that we'd all get our money back, and left the stage. I'm shell shocked right now. Devastated.

I hope he's okay too. I also hope he reschedules instead of giving us our money back...it's not about the money, Damien, it's about seeing you after so many years of waiting!

Chicago Show
I'm bummed, too. It's totally sad that we didn't get to see a full set, but you could tell he wasn't feeling well. I'm sure he'll be back in support of the album although it won't be in such a nice and intimate setting. Hopefully he'll be able to make up the show. It was a great 5 song set though.

I did manage to get a few full songs recorded that sound good from tonight's short gig. Anyone know how I can share them on here??

That's so crazy you guys! I'm so sorry. He looked completely fine on Thursday. I wonder if he just partied nonstop in LA while he was here, or if he got sick from someone he hugged on Thursday. Altho he played here again on Friday. Didn't hear what he looked or sounded like. Damn, that sucks so bad.

Finally back home. After waiting so long, I was really glad for what we saw. Then Go absolutely floored me. I have about a minute long clip of Then Go audio recorded but the video attached is crap since I was up in the boonies. I'll try to upload it somewhere when I'm less sleepy/can figure out how to get it off my phone. (Unless someone with a better recording than me beats me to it, in which case um.......yeah.)
Most annoying part of the show for me weirdly was not the fact that it ended prematurely but some jerk in the upper balcony had a camera with a FULL FLASH on it that was going off every 30 seconds. A few times it looked like the flash went off and then Damo visibly was uncomfortable afterwards, which I mean...if he wasn't feeling well and was getting dizzy? The lights were REALLY low, so I imagine that had to be really jarring. Really, I was more ticked off about that than anything else. I can forgive Damien for being sick, happens to the best of us, but the constant flashbulb really put a damper on things. Hoping for a reschedule but if it doesn't happen, I can at least say I saw Damien play. It was still pretty magical, however brief, and I LOVED hearing him do Then Go, because that's always been one of my favorites. I Don't Want To Change You was absolutely enchanting. |

Stubhub emailed my friend who purchased her tickets on there and said that they will honor her original ticket when the show is rescheduled.

Poor guy. Someone was bitching on twitter about him being a diva for canceling. I'm not a singer but I can imagine an ear infection would be particularly painful during singing. And not being able to hear yourself on top of that.

This is so sad. You can hear him audibly straining at the end of the song: Delicate in Chicago

There are some really angry people. I was much more in shock/disappointed than angry. He must have felt horrible to cancel in the middle of a show like that so I have sympathy for the guy.

Oh man Then Go would've been awesome. Sorry you guys missed out on the full experience though. Sucks for him to feel so bad. Ear stuff can be bad, my husband could barely get around he was so dizzy once.

It was really uncomfortable. The first three songs were okay, but sounded different, but once he came out and was like "guys I don't know..." the ones after that point just... I felt guilty for even being there?

Right? That's how I would feel, too. Like dude...go already. You are obviously too sick to be here. Your health is more important than a show.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_xTicJDzx4 Okay, here's my shoddy partial recording of about a minute of Then Go!
Sorry I didn't get the whole thing. I was a) wanting to enjoy the moment and b) at the time I was recording, I wanted to save my phone battery for possible later songs (which it turned out I didn't need, oops.) |
