I was at the gig last night and it was superb, with Damo in full rock-out mode!

He did indeed sing La Bamba too. He asked the audience if he should play a slow or a fast song. A girl about 5 seats to the left of me shouted out "I Remember" but Damo heard "La Bamba" due to his in ear monitor thingies.

After a mischeivious look around at the rest of the band, they launched into La Bamba, replete with Spanish lyrics - all in absolute stitches laughing.

A few interesting bits and pieces from the gig, and from chatting with the man himself afterwards....

He hasn't enjoyed playing the actual venues themselves at all. They're too impersonal and he hates people sitting too far away. Indeed, at last night's gig, he encouraged everyone to get up from their seats and come to the very front of the arena just before the encore, much to the chagrin of the venue management who were having kittens!

He then sang a stunning, un-amped, un-mic'd version of Cannonball which, in a huge, gigantic venue like the MEN arena, was no mean feat. Absolutely beautiful and stunning it was too.

Also, after the completion of this tour, Damo confirmed he's taking a long break from the whole touring, recording thing. In his words he's "sick of getting ****ed up for other people's enjoyment" because he feels he can only tour and record, or at least play live well and make songs worth recording, whilst he's depressed. And at the moment he's really happy and is liking being so so, in his words, he's going to "grow carrots" for a while.

He did go on to say that he usually gets bored of "sulking" after about 10 minutes so not to hold him to it

Generally Damo was in fine form, very chatty, very relaxed and full of stories and jokes and laughter and stuff both during and after the gig. I fond his improvised lyrics to the "Bang Bang" section of "I Remember" particularly amusing..

"There's a man/Just gone to the toilet/Who knows what he's going to do..." and "This place/Full of people/Sitting on chairs that look like stairs/This place/Full of no smoking signs"...and so on. Top stuff that had the whole place in stitches

I can't remember exactly what was and wasn't played - "Unplayed Piano" was in there - and a gorgeous version of "Amie" which he dedicated to Ireland after a long story about him growing up - prompted by some Irishers in the audience screaming "G'wan Damo!!!" at every available quiet moment.

the "un-amplified" version of cannonball isn't, in fact, un-amplified

Full review of this to follow when i get back from college in a few hours or so!

Quick highlights: Then-GO, Volcano, Cannon-Ball unplugged, Sleep Don't Weep, La Bamba + Impro for I remember + damien's mood in general.

Overall, the best gig i've been too.

Maybe the Spanish "S" is hard to pronounce if you're Irish

Just realised that after soundchecking Insane in Plymouth he didn't play it next day or yesterday at Manchester... so he must be saving it for Cardiff!!!! Hollie you have to Go!!!!!!!!!
