What are SHN files?

I'm sorry, i'm trying to get into trading, and i have no idea what's going on. If there's a thread with the basics, or someone who knows a lot, i'd appreciate it/them.

Here's an introduction to the *.shn format and you can also download the software you need here: http://www.etree.org/shncom.html

It's a compression, but more closely related to *.wav than the highly compressed *.mp3. CD-quality compression, basically. Big file size, too.

Shn files are a loss less compression. That means, Shns"zip up" Wav files into smaller, easier to download files without losing any of the information. MP3 files lose information in their compression process . . .

FLAC files are also loss less compressed files. One benefit of FLACs is that they are a bit smaller than Shns. Another benefit is that FLACs have a built-in check-sum file; Shn files require an md5 file upon uncompression to make sure that the file matches the original (just to check it).

I would certainly recommend the etree.org site that was posted above for more detailed information. The catch about Shn and FLAC files are they they can not be listened to in a normal CD player. There are skins/plug-ins for WinAmp, though, that will allow you to play those compressed files on your computer.

Hey there,

does anyone know if there is a shn plug-in for Windows Media Player?
I don't want to install WinAmp or another program to make my shn files work...

I believe you have to reverse the shn files again to normal files with the program mentioned above. It's easy to do.

I just burnt them on a normal audio cd. At least my Nero didn't need any plug-ins.
Thanks, anyway!
