sure sound heartbroken. you dont have to attend to help f**kknocker. the guy gives his time and energy and you complain. the bar says ok to having the gig and you complain. 150,000 people are dead and youre complaining about being too young to go to the gig. and he had better read your complaint too! just try for one second to imagine truly what it is like to be in the position of what...maybe a million people ... to have lost everything. look in the mirror when you decide to complain in the midst of a tragedy and ask yourself, am i being petty? because to be blunt , you are.

it works. go to maketradefair.com and join. fill out a couple forms and they do most of the work. heres one example of peoples voices being heard. i said in a thread before that bush being elected will have far fewer consequences on the world than most decisions made by the WTO or world bank. this is where the decisions of the world are made. and these companies are the ones molding the rules. let them hear your voice. it takes time but it can work.
Oxfam Campaign Victory as Nestle settles claim
24 January 2003
Today we have heard from Oxfam in Ethiopia that Nestle settled their claim against the Ethiopian government.
They have dramatically reduced their claim from $6 million to $1.5 million and have agreed to immediately donate the money back to be spent on famine relief.
This is a real victory for the people of Ethiopia and for the 40,000 people around the world who have emailed Nestle in the last month, asking them to drop their claim.
At the meeting between Nestle and the Ethiopian government, Dr. Mulu Kesela, the Ethiopian Vice Minister of Finance publicly thanked Oxfam for our campaign.
Today's events show that Nestle is not immune to public pressure. But Nestle must now prove that this was more than a face-saving gesture.
The severe hunger and poverty in Ethiopia have been caused partly by debt and drought but also by unfair trade. Ethiopia relies on foreign sales of its coffee crop for two thirds of its income. In the past three years world coffee prices for farmers have fallen by 50% and yet giant coffee companies like Nestle continue to make handsome profits.
Nestle should follow up today's deal by taking action to ensure that coffee farmers are paid a decent price.
You can help us keep the pressure up on Nestle and the other three giant coffee companies.
Email the coffee giants now!
Read the memorandum of understanding between Nestle and the Ethiopian government

well i dont know how else to read that other than a petty complaint that was thinly veiledbehindwhat came across to me asphoney concernmade in reference to an event that is meant to help the survivors of the most devastating single dayin terms of human life to strike humanity since nuclear bombs went off in japan.

i realize this itself comes across as harsh criticism. it is meant to. i know shes young and rather than react like most people do when they feel they are criticized and get defensive, i hope she takes what i said at face value. think before you speak. keep things in perspective. it will help in a lot of ways, from getting along with others , to being more clearly understood, to a less stressful existence entirely. when you can stop and think about what you are complaining about whether it be traffic or an underage gig and say, ya know, all in all this isnt nearly as bad as it could be....things just tend not to stress you out as much.

of course she can also just call me a t**ser.....no skin off my teeth.

peace

I have often thought it would be a blessing if each human being were stricken blind and deaf for a few days during their early adult life. Darkness would make them more appreciative of sight; silence would teach them the joys of sound.

I hear what your trying to say butId appreciate it if youdidnt jump down my throat like that just because I challenged your opinion. Who are you to say that her concern was phoney? Just because we're not all activists like yourself dosn't mean we dont care too.Making ourselves suffer wont make any difference to the survivors in Asia! Why dont you come down off your high horse and stop being so self-rightious. I relise your heart is in the right place but nobody is going to listen to you if your patronising. When i read your comments allI heard was defensivness andbitterness. What is the point of being so passionateabout something if your bitter?

I really do respect what your saying but I do not appreciate my opinion being dismissed. I hope you take what Im saying to face value. In saying that I admireyour spark.

ok 'princess' ill get off my high horse....

but im still looking at my post in response to yours to see where i 'jumped down your throat'....... unless youre in disguise....cause i may have jumped down someones throat, but not someone named pink princess...

as i said, her concern came across as phoney to me....pretty much because it was tucked into a complaint about an event that is for helping people. and i can say that because its an opinion.

ive never suggsted that if you werent an activist you dont care. i personally dont 'expect' anything from anyone and wouldnt think any less of someone who didnt give based on that alone. i have certain beliefs that would cause some to suggest i dont care . i dont think feeding the starving in africa the way we are doing it is a good thing. most people think im heartless to say that. but i believe we make it worse by doing so. any population that gets more food increases in size, barring any other influence(like war, excess predation). doesnt anyone else wonder why we can send more and more food to theseplaces and they continue to starve? because as we increase the food, they increase population. it will never end til the population levels off. it sucks. but that is a fact. no scientific experiment has ever shown an increase in food will lead to anything other than an increase in population. so, im not judging anyone on whether they care or not. most do in their own way. whether they give or not. i make some suggestions on what people can do that is easy, like the oxfam thing. and i type out opinions on the internet. thats the extent of my activism. ive never claimed to be some great philathrapist.

bitter and defensive? reread your post and mine and tell me who is defensive. and i never even commented to you. bitter? no , not on this subject anyway. i found her complaint to be petty all things considered. its that simple. my comments were directed at that alone. perhaps you misinterpreted my distaste for her comment as bitterness.

but thanks for the compliment on my spark. its always nice to hear something like that.

jason

In 1944, 29 reindeer were imported onto St. Matthew Island in the Bering Sea. Specialists had calculated (quite correctly) that the island could support between 1600 and 2300 reindeer, and by 1957 the population had grown to 1350. But by 1963, with no natural controls or predators, the population had soared to 6000, and in the next three years, this population exhausted the island's food resources and crashed, leaving only 42 specimens clinging precariously to life. jayavo your right I was out of line in some of the things I said. I apologies I was really wound up when I wrote that. Arguing back and forth is petty and there are more important things in life. I did mean I admire your spark tho the world need more of the passion you have.
