How far from home is she? What mode of transport is she availing of? What are the traffic and prevailing weather conditions like? Is she going to stop for a bite to eat? Will she nap on arrival home before posting her review? These are all important parameters.

Tomo told me yesterday was the best date of the European Tour. (what a good sentence to start a review, ain't it?) Josh Ritter was perfect, and though the French audience didn't know him (apart from a few freaks like me), I think he made a very good impression. I'll post a review in the thread about him. So Damien and the band arrived on stage around 9, and played for about 1.5 hour - I have the sensation they'd have played longer, but there was a curfew... They started with "the Professor", and there was a few fits of giggle when Damien sang the part in French, it was really cute... Then they started playing Volcano, but someone shouted "WHERE'S LISA?" - Damien explained - in French - that she was in Ireland, she was sick... (audience: "awwwwww") but better already. After "Volcano", they did "Amie"; it was really soft and at the end Damien kneeled down and looked up, still playing softly, while acrackling (andscary, imo)sound was getting louder and louder... As he had changed the lyrics to say "that the end of the century brings peace for you and me", my theory is that it was his silent minute for the victims of the Madrid tragedy. But that's only my theory, he didn't say a word about it. Then they did "older chests", "woman like a man" and"tongue" (god these 2 were powerful!). Afterwards it was more calm: they played "delicate" and Damien told us about when he was in France, and the first time he heard Jacques Brel, and how he wanted to cover the song "ne me quitte pas", but finally wrote a song with the same energy, but about his own life... "if you leave me now" was wonderful, the audience was very silent... It was great. "the Blower's daughter" got us all to sing along, and "rule n°2" got Damien to have to tune his guitar. During "I remember", he broke one of hi strings, but continued to play, with a lot of effects. Vyvienne was looking at him with a worried face, but he kept playing, it was amazing. Then the band went away and came back to play "cannonball", Damien with what he called his "baby guitar", while the broken string of his "mummy guitar" (? ) was being fixed backstage. Then Damien said that they had a curfew, and couldn't play much longer, but that he'd like to sing 2 other songs... At this point, Vyv had left her cello to play the keyboard, but Damien started doing "eskimofriend" and she came back just in time! The song didn't end, it shifted to "cold water"... Then Damien unplugged his guitar and came to the front of the stage, where he kneeled down again(this time I have no theory) to sing "halleluja". This was... god there's no words to describe it! Then they went away, and I thought it was over, as the curfew of 10:30 was overgone. But Damien came back, and explained he couldn't do too much noise because of the residents. So he played unplugged again, and he sang "Blower's daughter part II"... This was probably the best gig I've ever seen. Josh was so happy to be here! And Damien didn't seem pissed off as often described in the other reviews. He didn't smile a lot, but he seemed to enjoy the concert. I'd even go as far as to say he sang as if his life depended upon it!! (hmmm, maybe thats because I threatened him to beat him toa pulp if the concert wasn't great!) I was very disappointed that Lisa wasn't here, but they did very well without her. And honestly Vyv was enough beauty for my eyes, she was stunning! She was wearing a long dark blue skirt, and a red spaghetti straps top. Damien was wearing jeans and a short sleeved fair shirt. He is indeed quite short... and has blue eyes!! I always thought he had brown eyes.Tomo was a real pleasure to look at too; he was having so much fun! And Shane played a song with a bow too, it was cool. Apart from the absence of Lisa, my only disappointment is that Vyv didn't sing. (although there was a mic ready near her) Thats about it, I can't really say in public how much this concert moved me, you'd all think I'm a complete freak. Edited by: Patricia

Thanks for sharing Trish!I'm glad you had such a great time! That setlist could NOT have been better, but I think I've mentioned that beforeToo bad they didn't play a bit longer. We got about 2 hours in Amsterdam. No Hallelujah though. It was my best gig ever (musically, cuz Radiohead at Werchter ruled even more) too! What did you do with your present for Lisa?

That he'd love to spend the night with me but Vyv would be jealous. Hang on... No he didn't say that... Not at that precise moment anyway!

I was! I wanted to write a real review for you guys... I also have Josh Ritter's set list, I have to post it. My coat and my notebook + pen were on the stage, as I was litterally first row. I didn't wear an eskimofriends tee-shirt though... I wanted to wear red, and I thought an EF tee needed to be white and blue; you see, it doesn't suit my complexion...

Thanks for sharing, Patricia.
So did Tomo use a drumset and what was that at Paris? A small club or a bigger one? I ask, because it isn't really clear in your review. |

It was a cool venue, where you could stand downstairs and sit upstairs. Idon't know how manyppl there were. The audience was really good I think. Silent and rocking at the same time!

Nice photos - thanks for posting them!! With your permission, would I be able to use them in a Uni multimedia project I'm doing at the moment... basically just an information file about Damien Rice... will be seen by a couple of tutors and a few other students - no commercial use... |

I don't know... They're from another site, and the site already got them from a journalist. You should ask Kitsh, she's the one who allowed me to post the link here. I'll ask her if you want, and answer via this thread, ok?

That'd be fantastic - thanks! Like I say, they're not gonna be seen by anyone outside the Uni, and certainly won't be used commercially... cheers for the help... darlin'. |

Here are the correct links: (Just deleted a few rogue spaces)
ftp://195.54.192.72/secur/irc.sec/new/win/ %20%20.%200%20%20/ 123/DRTP15-03-04Bymoi.part01.exe ftp://195.54.192.72/secur/irc.sec/new/win/ %20%20.%200%20%20/ 123/DRTP15-03-04Bymoi.part04.rar ftp://195.54.192.72/secur/irc.sec/new/win/ %20%20.%200%20%20/ 123/DRTP15-03-04Bymoi.part16.rar The exe file is the first part of the archive that rebuilds it into a single rar. Just double-click and go. (Alright Brenski!)Edited by: framesaver
