thought iīd put together a brief story of Stoic
- the song was written during the 10 Songs to Barcelona and itīs actually the song from Day 6 - first time played was at the Grado aftershow, July 2012. A very small and nice aftershow in a dark spot by the beach. Shared first by pm only, then was put on Dime I think, but actually never made it to youtube. Didnīt know the title then and we called I Donīt Know How to Comfort You or just Comfort You - we never hear again about the song. Flashforward to 2015. We met Damien just me & Stef outside the venue in Philly. I had this mental list of questions mostly about lost songs, and I ask about this one. I started asking for the name, so I said something, whatīs the name of the song that goes I Donīt Know How to Comfort You, I Donīt Know... and he immediately replied: Stoic? Then I said I liked the song a lot, was one of his best unreleased and if it was recorded, but he said that it was actually abandoned and was one of the songs were he didnīt like the lyrics cos they were pointing fingers and all (which I do not really see myself how it points fingers but alas) -Flashforward to July 2015. Taormina aftershow. At like 5 in the morning, people ask him for new songs. What does he play completely out of the blue? Stoic!!! bit of shock cos I really thought the song was abandoned. Just like in Grado, no video recording, so no youtube, mostly cos the aftershow had been going on for ages so no batteries were left. - and yesterday, mini aftershow in Red Rocks and people request it and he plays again (cue for next time, if he ask how you know the song, donīt say Stefan & Marti hahaha) and now finally we even have a youtube video to go with it

Did you see his gears turning when someone says Stefan and Marti? He knows who the masterminds are!

what would be the correct reply to this inquiry, in the hypothetical case one should request Mustard Seeds or Stoic?

the correct answer would be "youīve played them live before" rather than "oh marti sent me the illegal mp3"

What an absolutely beautiful song, it looked and sounded like it meant so much to him. It's a real pity that many of these haven't been recorded properly
I really hope he tours Europe again next summer, would love to follow him around for a few weeks |

Out of respect for Damien, do you think I should avoid posting the chords/lyrics online until he is ready to for the world to hear it?
If so I guess I'll just sit at home with my guitar and keep singing and playing it! |

I really really love this song! Thanks so much for capturing it in such good quality. And thanks for the ones requesting it.
I'm always really surprised how he just remembers how to to play these seldom played songs by heart. Without mistakes and full of emotion. Work of a true musician. And I don't agree with him about the lyrics - they are very raw and honest but I feel they are also very common. As in: this situation happened to many of us, and because of that they are very strong. Could be that he moved on from feeling like this, but many of us can relate. Also the melody is great. Familiar but still different from any of his recorded songs. This is deffo recording material! Most artists would kill to have a song like this.
