What's Your Album of the Year??
Now that 2009 is almost over... time for a What's Your Favourite Album of the Year thread
What's yours? Mine has to be William Fitzsimmons The Sparrow and the Crow!!!!!! I love everything about this album, the melodies, the lyrics, the mix of folk-ish with a little bit of electronics, the female voice incorporated here and there... his guitar playing, his voice,... Key tracks for me are I Don't Feel It Anymore, If You Would Come Back Home, Please Forgive Me, Even Now, You Still Hurt Me, Maybe Be Alright

Great thread idea.
I will be cheating, with 2 albums. One in english, one in japanese. - SERENA RYDER. From Canada. Album title : Is it Ok. Released in november 2008 in Canada, but february 2009 in the U.S. and rest of the world. I love this album, and the artist 10x more. She is ... gorgeous ? The songs are good, her guitar skills are amazing, and her singing is tremendous (said to range 3 octaves!). Haven't heard of her yet ? One word : Run, run, run and get her albums. - A n d y m o r i. From Japan. Album title :Self title. Trio band. Their songs goes from rock, and go through pop, punk or folk/country. Their lyrics are superd and very peculiar. They all went and graduated from Waseda university. So the lyrics goes from youth, Bengal tiger & Whiskey, the body counts in Bagdad, or the "orange train" who goes through Tokyo from West to East, etc... Sorry, the language is japanese. So, only a very very few of the members here may be interested. Then go check miss Ryder, because she is a pure gem. The "ambiance" is unique !

I pondered for a good while, and I think I know my choice:
Some of the best lyrics i've ever heard, great variety of songs and the only song I know of that's written about On the Origin of Species. I listened to this Mumford album, and I am yet to be blown away. Maybe I need to give it some time.

Thanks for the heads up everyone on Mumford & Sons... excellent! And William Fitzsimmons is really powerful as well (I had to order all 3 of his cds after hearing him). Has anyone else enjoyed the Freelance Whales recent release? One of my favorites of the year. (it was released in 2009 though you have to wait till march 2010 for a CD version) http://www.myspace.com/freelancewhales
