The Animals Were Gone
I don't think any / many of us have heard the track "The Animals Were Gone". What do you think it's about?
In my head I had an image of what the video could look like... a little boy gets taken to the zoo, but he looks very sad... then you see why... all the animals are gone... then the camera zooms in on the cages... and there is damien playing his guitar... and then you pan over to another cage... and there is lisa singing... and then you see vyvienne in a cage... and shane... and tomo... And I'm not even high on anything... |

i dont think its a rename. Then Go is an old juniper song so i can understand renaming it but it also sounds very similar to "glorybox" by portishead (to me it does anyways) so i can also understand them leaving it off the album
i like your imagery emmett. perhaps they may steal your idea lets hope they give you credit for it

i like this idea, it's poignant.. i almost got a tear.. but if i was the little boy i think i would have cheered up after i saw damien and lisa in the cages maybe it's an environmental or animal rights statement.. it's definitely new yeah? |

My guess that from the title it would be about how industrialization is taking over and not leaving anymore animals around when they once roamed freely, of course I could be completely wrong and probably am but oh well. My bet is the song will have a Older Chests feel to it.

I saw a metaphore once, but it was just pacing up and down its cage and looked really sad. They should be allowed to run wild.

I agree. I can't imagine the title being meant in any literal sense. That's not very Damien is it?
I thought the title recalled this line from a speech made American Indian Chief Seattle in 1854; 'If all the animals were gone, man would die of spiritual loneliness...' Spiritual loneliness...now we're talking Mr Rice. And I think exploring this theme, despite it being so obscurely related to the title, might lead to some interesting suggesations as to the content of the song. I might post one later...right now I'm too focused on listening to the new Scissor Sisters album...yay, 2006, my two favourite musical acts finally, fabulously, encoring.
