lyrics
lyrics to the cocconut skin song. some parts may be incorrect.
You can hold her hand Show her how you cry Explain to her your weakness, so she understands And then go to her and die You can break decisions, before you crumble up inside Spend your time asking everyone else's permission And then run away and hide You can sit on chimneys put some fire up your ass Don't need to know what you are doing, or waiting for But if anyone should ask Tell them i'm cooking coconut skins, been hanging out (??) Tell them God is dropping by to forgive our sins, and relieve us of our doubt But i need you to hold our heads(??) But your basket has a hole You could lie between her legs, and go lookin for Tell her i'm searching for her soul You can wait for ages Watch your compass turn cold All the time is contagious Everybody's getting old You can sit on chimneys, put some fire up your ass Don't need to know what you are doing, or waiting for But if anyone should ask Tell them i'm cooking coconut skins, been hanging out (??) Tell them God is dropping by to forgive our sins, and relieve us of our doubt Last edited by Five Leaves Left; 07-07-2006 at 05:20 PM. |

lyricss
lyrics for the other song
This would not have happened if i hadn't missed my plane Would've been there when they told you i wrapped in the grain And this big misunderstanding now, being misunderstood Thinkin someones trying to fu*k with me, set fire to my world I wouldn't want you to want to be wanted by me I wouldn't want you to worry, be drowned within my sea I only wanted to be wonderful, and wonderful is true The truth is i only really wanted to be wanted by you Stupid situation now where everything goes wrong YOu can tell if I am lying, you do not belong In my bed go rest your head upon the bones of a bigger man He will cover you with ??, you could close up like a clam(p?) Because I wouldn't want you to want to be wanted by me I wouldn't want you to worry, be drowned within my sea I only wanted to be wonderful, and wonderful is true The truth is i only really wanted to be wanted by you To go play with your piano write a mediocre song But the shell of mediocrity, pretend there's nothing wrond Never thought you were a chicken sh*t I never thought of you at all Until you asked me to be part of it, now you're showing me your wall I wouldn't want you to want to be wanted by me I wouldn't want you to worry, be drowned within my sea I only wanted to be wonderful, and wonderful is true The truth is i only really wanted to be wanted by you The truth is i only wanted to be wanted by you |

Shane told me that at this gig during cheers darlin, their whole band got really really drunk off the wine. That they were really plastered throughout this concert hehe. Download it and theres even a version of "i remember (drunk style)". HA! Shane is hillarious, but its even funnier when you can hear the proof of his story!

thank you so much for sharing the new songs. I'm loving them.
cheers. I just read this review about ummm wine and Damien, my two favorite things.. Wine Can Enhance Your Listening Experience Saturday, July 08, 2006 Music has been a big part of my life for many years. I have a fond appreciation for different styles of music, much like I have a fond appreciation for different styles of wine. This parallel made me think about how one could pair wine with music, as we pair wine with food. Two recent events helped bring about this revelation. The first was a fundraiser concert that was organized two weeks ago to benefit St. Joseph's Family Center, the wonderful nonprofit I work for in my spare time. I called on a friend of mine from college, Brad Colerick, to come perform some tracks off his new CD, "Cottonwood." The second event was when I went with a friend to go see Damien Rice, an eclectic folk singer from Ireland, at the Mountain Winery in Saratoga. Both of these artists poured their souls into deeply personal songs that touch the audience. It was as if we could feel the pain, happiness, love and loss that the artist has gone through - experiencing life and shaking us at our own emotional cores. sounds very intense. I wish I was there. link Last edited by juliaann; 07-09-2006 at 02:32 PM. |

As mentioned earlier "You Can" (unofficial title) isn't technically new since it was played about a year ago at the Palladium. However, according to the setlist there was another new song following "9 Crimes" and before "Then Go". Does anybody have that one?
P.S. My comp isn't working for a few more days so I can't hear the latest live version but from the last version these were some of the lyrical corrections I'd make (bolded) unless they've changed. You can hold her hand And show her how you cry Explain to her your weakness So she understands: And then roll over and die! You can brave decisions Before you crumble up inside Spend your time asking Everyone else's permission: And then run away and hide! You can sit on chimneys And put some fire up your ass! No need to know What you're doing or waiting for: But if anyone should ask? Tell them I've been licking coconut skins And we've been hanging out! Tell them God just dropped by to forgive our sins And relieve us our doubt You can hold her eggs But your basket has a hole You can lie between her legs And go lookin for: Tell her you're searching for her soul! You can wait for ages And watch your compost turn to coal But time is contagious: Everybody's getting old. You can sit on chimneys And put some fire up your ass! No need to know What you're doing or waiting for: But if anyone should ask? Tell them I've been cooking coconut skins And we've been hanging out! Tell them God just dropped by to forgive our sins And relieve us our doubt. P.S. The whole absurdity of the durned co-co-nut skins is finally starting to grow on me a bit more. Maybe because I can now picture the fact that the guy is so high that he considers them the "we" in the next line! Actually introducing them as his friends: now that's what I call comedy, folks.

Here are some corrections I'd make for the other song:
This would not have happened if I hadn't missed my plane. I would've been there when they told you I'm the rat within the grain. Within this big misunderstanding out and being misunderstood I'm thinkin' someone's trying to fu*k with me and set fire to my wood. Well I wouldn't want you to want to be wanted by me. I wouldn't want you to worry you'd be drowned within my sea. I only wanted to be wonderful, and wonderful is true. In truth, I only really wanted to be wanted by you. It's a stupid situation now where everything goes wrong. If you can't tell if I am lying: then you do not belong. In my bed, go rest your head upon the bones of a bigger man. And he will cover you with rockwool and you can close up like a clam. 'cause I wouldn't want you to want to be wanted by me. I wouldn't want you to worry you'd be drowned within my sea. I only wanted to be wonderful, and wonderful is true. In truth, I only really wanted to be wanted by you. So go play with your piano and write a mediocre song About this shell of mediocrity: pretend there's nothing wrong. I never thought you were a chicken sh*t: I never thought of you at all. Until you asked me to be part of it And now you're showing me a wall. I wouldn't want you to want to be wanted by me. I wouldn't want you to worry you'd be drowned within my sea. I only wanted to be wonderful and wonderful is true. In truth, I only really wanted to be wanted by you. In truth, I only really wanted to be wanted by you. (Apparently rockwool is a type of what we here in the states refer to as insulation: quite a stunning multi-layered metaphor since fiberglass is irritating enough to actually cut through your skin!)

CD,
Yup, I agree that it does sound like that. Now I'm going to kindly ask you to not trust your ears for a second because illusions are not always only visual. Yet lip readers would also tell you that often you need to infer through context because pronunciation alters slightly due to numerous variables with every speaker. Even when I read the lyrics before hearing the song, that line made absolutely no sense to me. I then listened for the first time thinking maybe it was actually misheard as "wrapped up in the brain" or "rapped upon the brain" instead. The last word though clearly began with a "g", whereas there was a slight glitch in the sound right around the words in question. While the glitch doesn't directly affect the wrapped vs. rat controversey it did cause me to pay more attention to the possibility that at least one word before it isn't heard loudly or at all. It was also then when I noticed Damo is actually dropping volume and energy enough at the end of that word (he's about to take a quick 'catch breath' to finish singing the line out which you can definitely hear him do before the next word: 'within") that it might actually be a different word altogether. Reading the rest of the song's lyrics it's obvious that Damo's character is revealing that he was trouble all along which she never suspected until now (he planned to fly away just as she found out but now he's gloating to her about how he conned her and why). Rats are known as big eaters of grain. In fact, the phrase is common enough that there are two similarly titled recent books: "The Rat in the Grain: The Looting of Iraqui Culture" and "Rats in the Grain: The Dirty Tricks and Trials of Archer Daniels Midland". Both elude to sneaky, underhanded behavior which went on unnoticed for a time. So that makes a lot more sense than "wrapped", doesn't it? Then why aren't you hearing "rat"? Read on... "Coconut skins" insanity notwithstanding, phonetics are an important tool in transcription. The "d" and "t" sound are formed exactly the same way. The only difference is that one is voiced and the other is not. Now if a speaker gets slightly sloppy or lazy (i.e. he/she 'mumbles'), the intended "d" or "t" shape can very easily become a "p" because that sound is formed by even just a brief closing of the lips. Try it yourself: say "rad", "rat" and "rap" with almost no vocal energy as if you had almost no breath behind the word. You'll find that they sound almost identical unless specific effort is made to enunciate them. Now start to say either "rad" or "rat" but close your lips briefly before you get the the last letter. Both words will then sound exactly like "wrapped".

The problem with that logic is that you're assuming from the beginning he's saying "rat" not "wrapped" and then describing why I misheard him... even though we have no evidence that I did interpret them wrongly. None of this precludes either of us from being right, of course. They're both interesting metaphors anyway ("wrapped within the grain" conjours up coffin-type claustrophobia in my mind) so until we have an alternate version to study, I'll let it be!
