plans on travelling, could use your help
so... i've made a major decision. i am going to change my life. i want to sell all the things i own, free myself from all these things that tie and seduce me, to leave everything behind, as they say.
i am going to travel only with a bag of clothes and my guitar and live from what busking and playing a concert every now and then can get me. i feel that this is something i have to do for myself. it is more a need than a choice actually. i just feel that there is something out there for me. well... so far i've planned to start this when it gets warmer. may or june probably. i want to travel north first, visit some places on the coast of germany and then somehow make my way to ireland to learn more about the roots of the music i want to make, and then go to southern europe when it's getting colder. spain maybe. or even south america if the money bag allows it. so for this time i am trying to find some spots to have a shower or a bed for free since i don't know if all this will work on its own. plus, i really want to meet people that are this giving and caring and i believe i can find some of those here. i'll do this anyway, if i'm getting help or not, but i sense the eskimos could be helpful. does anyone here have a couch for me for one night? all i can offer is free music and hugs. =) Last edited by Canadian Island; 02-04-2009 at 09:35 PM. |

wow! That sounds great and scary at the same time...
Well, if I'm still in Ireland at the time you come here, you are welcome to stay at my house in Galway. You'd be the second eskimo I'm hosting in Galway :-) By the way...Couchsurfing is a great side to find a place to sleep to...kind of like hospitality club... Good luck with you plans!

You are welcome at my place if you need a place to crash in Copenhagen!
Last year we had another busker staying at our place who just lived from what he earned by playing in the street, and i think the advice i can give from what he said is that you should stick to countries with low living expenses (sadly, Ireland and Denmark are very expensive when it comes to food prices, etc) I could never travel like that, I'm too home bound, but it seemed an amazing way to live, and musically very stimulating; you get a lot of experience and confidence in yourself as a performer. The guy's name is Luke Winslow-King, you can find him here: http://www.myspace.com/lukewinslowking He said he is basically traveling with the summer. Maybe he can offer you some tips on busking in Europe if you write him at his myspace page.

That sounds really amazing, I hope it all works out for you! I would suggest keeping a journal, maybe you could write a book about your experiences when you are through with it and are ready to move on to the next stage of your life.

^ good idea. will do.
i am collecting every offer, information and idea i can get these days. so again to those of you who are open to this, please send me adresses and phone numbers via pm here or to canadian.island@googlemail.com. it will take some time till i have everything planned and sorted out. feels like playing tetris, putting all the puzzles together and then, when the work is done, it goes woooosh and i'm on my way. to those who think this is scary... yes it is. and i've never felt more alive. |

Can't really help you with a place to stay, but I can offer some advice regarding ultra-lite packing if you are interested! My experience is from back-woods backpacking, but it may still come in handy.

I also can't promise and lodging, especially not here in Barcelona, my hands are tied. But if you were to reach Budapest, Hungary in around late summer or afterwards I think I think i could get you a place to stay. And its a really cheap place (and might even become cheaper if our dear politicians continue their present activities and collapse the economy )

I'm starting next week with no direction home. Probably won't be able to go online very often. So any numbers and locations are very welcome and I'll give a call when I made it near your position and beg for your couch or something...
