Damien performs in NY (Sep 15)!!
from NME.com
Damien Rice performs tiny show He's introduced by Bono Damien Rice performed for an audience of around 200 people in New York at the weekend (September 15) - and was introduced by Bono. The star played a surprise show at the Hudson Hotel, watched by a supermodel-heavy crowd. Introducing Rice, U2 frontman Bono said: "What you're about to hear and see is like being at a Bob Dylan gig in the early Sixties or a Cat Stevens gig in the early Seventies or James Taylor, or something extraordinary. "Damien Rice is able to still and distil the storms into quiet reflection. He's really a remarkable talent, I can't quite believe that he's here. I'm very humbled and very honoured and I would ask New York to give him the kind of welcome only New York, only Manhattan can, and then give him the silence he deserves because this is something very special." The fellow Irishmen were in New York to promote the ONE campaign to make poverty history, and the Edun clothing line owned by Bono, his wife Ali Hewson and designer Rogan Gregory. Rice repeatedly demanded silence, and played just two songs for the crowd which included supermodels Helena Christensen and Christy Turlington, Ed Burns, James Iha and Heather Graham |

made me smile there. not that bit about Damien demanding silence, though but I guess that's something that will never go. people talking non-stop.
I still want to visit New York, though. even more now. damn.. |

Bono will be playing harmonica and filling in for Lisa on backup vocals.

Damien looks smashing.. I wonder how much of cost of the clothes some of those people wore. I bet one outfit would feed a poor family. I do not wonder however, about Dames belt. hehe

I'm having trouble picturing Damien Rice being comfortable playing for a crowd of supermodels.
Or maybe I'm not comfortable with the idea of it. |

Bono Gets Bitchy With Fashionistas
New York, September 12-15, 2006 – “Thank you very much for coming. I’m here as Ali’s bitch”, Bono told the crowd at the launch party for the One t-shirt, made by Edun, his clothing line with wife Ali Hewson. The U2 frontman was a bit tired; he’d gotten off a plane and come directly to the Hudson Hotel for the Friday night bash, and was, in fact, the evening’s speaker, giving up the stage briefly to Columbia University economist Jeffrey Sachs, and to Irish singer Damien Rice, who told the crowd, “Tonight, I’m Bono’s bitch.” Rice’s declaration that the evening was “One special moment in this great, great city of noise” was prophetic. Annoyed at the chattering during Rice’s performance, Bono momentarily lost his cool, and told the fashion crowd to “Take your f--ing finger food and f--k off” if they couldn't quiet down. He immediately regained his composure and continued with his speech, while the guests went on gabbing, apparently unaware that they’d just been told off by a rock star. http://www.oanmedia.com/2006/09/bono...h_fashioni.php

I share your unease. Or mayble I just want him to not be comfortable with it. Meh, on second thought, I'm likely just jealous that these people got to be in the same room with Bono and Damo and most of them likely didn't appreciate it.

How about we start a campaign for silence at Damien's gigs. We could get t-shirts made that say "Take your f--ing finger food and f--k off!"
