Default U.S Tour - Band Details

seems they have changed the lineup of the band for the upcoming U.S tour

from the official site
Quote:
08 May 2006

usa shows - band details confirmed

Damien and the following band will be performing on the upcoming US Tour

Vyvienne Long - Cello
Shane Fitzsimons - Bass
Joel Shearer - Guitar
Earl Harvin - Drums
So no lisa & Tomo... Thats a bit suprising but perhaps they are gonna do their own thing after the recent tribeca gig?

that's very surprising! does this mean the band as we know it has split?? i half expected damien to go it solo but i didn't expect a new band line up...

"Joel Shearer - Guitar
Earl Harvin - Drums"

who are these guys? anyone know? if the guitarist is an electric player maybe damien will be rolling out some rockier stuff...

i'm a little shocked.. i'm still trying to wrap my mind around damien without lisa and tomo..

it sounds to me like damiens trying his new stuff.. i doubt he would have 2 new additions to the band (especially a guitarist) and not be trying out the new stuff

only time will tell i suppose

Joel (and the Pedestrians) have opened for Damien before - I saw them all play in Boston.

I wouldn't think there'd be a reason to tour without Tomo unless he doesn't want to or can't travel. It's not like Tomo couldn't play rockier stuff!

Still...interesting news. Now we are all intrigued

Yeah Joel is the singer with Pedestrian. I saw him play with Damien in Vicar St a couple of days ago. This should be interesting...

a couple of days ago? What'd they play?

I'm bummed. Lisa is half the reason I listen to Damien in the first place.

hmmmm.....this is really interesting......why would Damo need another guitarist? thats what strikes me? None of his songs that I know of use two guitars...however, if he is running new material i might be wrong.
But i hope this isn't a permanent thing.....

when lisa isn't on that tour someone has to play her guitar part on blowers daughter for example. so this could be a reason too...

The Pedestrian guy, played with Damien a few years back!! They all came on stage and sang a song together, they all surported the band (Damien RIce). I cant remember which gig it was though! i think it was the one with all the Mic problems at the begining! lol!

I like the speculation that this all presents and I am excited to see what the shows are like. I can understand some being disappointed that Lisa won't be there (and Tomo, who's last name I am trying to erase from my mind)....but I don't like any negative comments about the new lineup. Some of you are saying good things about the people playing with Damien on this tour, which adds to my excitement. As great as Lisa is, it's still Damien I go to see. I bet we can count on at least some new music and I have always gotten the impression that it's never been the Damien Rice Band, I've always thought of it as Damien Rice with whoever can help him do what he does best, the current band. Never thought anything was permanent. And we all know that Damien has repeatedly said that some of the new stuff would be edgier or more rock and that when he recorded 'O', he didn't have the money to buy the equipment he wanted (thankfully, it turns out), but I think a lot of us, (sometimes myself) but him in a category, and one thing he is all about is just doing what he feels. If that is a cd of 12 Prince cover's, then he'll do it and he'll dance on stage, but I guess I don't mean to rant or rage, just wanted to say that I am trying not to lose sight of the fact that I am given the opportunity to see Damien Rice live and I am excited, regardless if it's Max Weinberg and the Marching band behind him, or Tomo, Shane, and Vyv. (Although I do have a soft spot for Vyv, which may seem a bit hypocritical. ). Welcome new band members.

well, i guess all musicians progress and try new things, new styles, etc (except the Rolling Stones of course ). I'm excited to see what new things this new linup will offer. I will, however, miss Lisa's presence, that is, her musical presence and...errrrr...visual presence. But maybe she'll start doing more gigs on her own and we can see and hear even more of her!

exactly. i was really looking forward to seeing the whole band. tomo and especially lisa will be missed.

that said, i'm anxious to see how the new lineup turns out. it's a very talented group damo has put together and i can't wait to hear them.

i absolutley loved Tomo on drums...he always improvised, he was very natural when playing and he never tried to force the sound of the drum-he just coloured the songs in...i hope this new guy is just as good...
...and yeah i'm going to miss lisa singing with him an awful amount...
i have never realy liked change...hmmm...??

i wana see them play so much...it doesnt look like there is going to be any irish dates before he hits the U.S...but i guess he can't be everywhere at once.

and 'closing doors' that 'couple of days ago' thing beter have been a typo!!!!
