As of yesterday, when I was lucky enough to be at Cooldiscs in Derry in order to meet the man himself and see him play a few tunes, I am a newfound follower of Mr. Casey.
And I was just wondering, how many of you out there are the same? I'm sure there are plenty, with his growing popularity et al... |

(That's true love, Fifi! ) Daragh, you being the expert,....I d/l a few of Paddy's songs, but I think they are all from his first album (solo w/guitar). What's your (or anybody's, I guess) take on the second album, with the newfangledarrangements. I bet he's really good live! |

At first i thought the second album wasnt a patch on the debut album. But it grew on me and i really like the album now.
Its well worth the price!! I've only seen him at Witnness (Which was still excellent ) and at the Arnotts gig (cheers Dave!!!) were he played one song at the end. He's one i'll be definitely checking out at Oxegen this year. (Im assuming there will be in influx of Irish acts organised once the foreign acts are all confirmed) </span>

Thanks guys. I'll put it on my wish list, then. Sounds like bootlegs would be a good way to go, if anybody ever bothers taping him. I had a similar thing with Tom McRae's second albums. I never really liked the arrangements much, but the songs underneath it all are stellar. |

Second album grew on me. It sounds much much better live, the arrangements don't overwhelm it as much. Is it just my copy or are allthe lyricnotes for Living completely out of sync with the actual tracklisting?

I'm a fan of Paddy.... Loved the first album, but like others the second album took a while to grow on me (albeit I really liked the first few and last few tracks first time thru!). Really like it now tho.
Since the release of the second album, I've been to see him several times, and would deffo recommend him live. It's raw beautiful acoustic genius live! I'd also recommend searching out a copy of any live recordings he does. I think sometimes the instruments used on the album versions hide the great guitar work he does. I tracked down a six track CD called 'Whatever gets you on the radio EP' for a fiver. It has 6 tracks all performed on the radio out in the states, and has great acoustic tracks, a rarer song 'Criminal' and a gorgeous version of 'everybody wants' on it! The latest single over in ireland has nice raw versions of Self Servin Society and FGTH's Power of love on it. Deffo worth a listen! The guy himself is very approachable and very modest, almost shy.... but he's always taken time to chat with people at the gigs I've been to.... Excellent stuff! |

Thanks, that was useful. Is the 'Whatever gets you on the radio EP' a bootleg? It's not on amazon. Anyway, so I bought his first CD for starters. |

Did anyone hear the Prince cover, "when doves cry" on FM104's "uncovered unplugged" show a while back??
Brilliant briallint acoustic version. I was really impressed with it. Not that i did already know of the man's talent. </span>

I believe the 'Whatever gets you on the radio EP' was some sort of giveaway/promo thing in the USA. It has 'not for resale' written on it, yet I bought it online a few years back.
Hey daol20, I don't suppose you recorded the Prince cover did you? Sounds good! Was it the version that was available on the website for a short while? |

i used to really like paddy casey and went to a handfull of gigs after his first album but the wait for a second album and him constantly dragging it out annoyed me... plus meeting him wasnt exactly the best of experiences as he can be quite the w**ker when he wants to be... then i used to always see him in the village and never bothered anymore... kind of turned me off his music then once the second album was released i bought it and gave it a good listen and liked a few tracks "saints and sinners" "lucky one" etc. but as an album i hated the pop influx of loops and beats as it ruins the raw talent that he has. especially one of the last songs miracle. i heard that live in hmv a while before the cd was released and i thought that was the best song i heard... then i heard the album version and just cried out "oh no!!" but thats paddy all over i suppose |

Yeah, I now saw it in the discography on Brendan's site. I found it at gemm.com, but for now I'll just wait for the album. Daragh, I did d/l Sweet Suburban Sky rather randomly and can't get the song out of my head! I'm really looking forward to the album! |

I agree. I met him a couple of years ago after a gig and he was sooo grumpy! I love the first album and was really excited to hear the 2nd. I've had it for months and still haven't really gotten into it because it sounds so overproduced. I much prefer the more raw sound too. Will have to give it another try though. |
