Although certainly never one of his lyrical high points for me, it's always been musically really nice. BTW, how many of his unreleased songs have you heard? I don't know if we ever actually counted 'em all up but there have to be close to a hundred by now.

That's true, but to me it seems so simple and heartfelt. It feels like he's singing directly to Lisa (I like to imagine he his, although I really don't know). I have heard quite a few of his unreleased, not all, and I have a few other favorites but it seems to me that nobody ever talks about this one..probably my next favorite one is wild and free, or the box. I know that is one of his more popular unreleased songs. What are some your favs, maybe I haven't heard them yet?

I have 111 songs in iTunes when I type 'Damien Rice'. Some are just live versions of released ones, but I still think the big part are the unreleased. And I still think I did not find all of them |

That is true, I am never sure which songs are officially released... I just gathered them over the time and lost a track which are which. So, now that you mentioned it, there really might be as few as you say!

Some songs he has only played once, like the "waiting song" as it is titled on YouTube. I'm hoping the ones he has been playing a lot will be on the new album! And I'm also hoping there really will be a new album.. But he said in a live concert to a huge audience that he was going to make one so I think he is.

Are we counting songs like Face, Insane, and Steal a Mule as unreleased?
Cause some of them have been released on compilations (Face, The Connoisseur Of Great Excuse, Making Noise, Look at me...), some were recorded by Juniper or Bell X-1 (Insane, Tongue), and many of them are considered unreleased but actually they're just b-sides or rare songs (Then Go, Baby Sister, My City ****ty, Childish, even The Professor is often considered unreleased)... so, there's no way they come close to one hundred... this is a list Marti wrote on the Italian forum, it sounds complete to me: UNRELEASED (Old) Bottom shelf Closer Down Front Door Groovin' Is that it my friend It didn't take you long Lazy situation Rule #2 Sand Sex Change Toffee pop (9 Tour) Beast and Beauty Eve and the day (ex-What this night is for) Forgotten Deers Slow Stone You Shouldn't be here (post 9) Back to Her Man Everyone Said It I Don't Know How to Comfort You The Box (ex-Wild and Free) The Greatest Bastard The Waiting Song What If I'm Wrong What have you done to her Face |

Child, Man, and Silly Dog
Old Tomatoes (which is my favorite unreleased) Wooden/Trojan Horse Be Real With Me (which, when I found on Youtube back in '08 right after a live version of Eskimo, completely blew me away) You look for something to hold on to You look for something to pull you out You're looking 'round, and everybody's there And you hold out, cuz it's all in here 3rd and 4th line are just simply amazing, having the same theme as Wild & Free, and Coconut Skins Last edited by QueenOfTheSouth; 08-23-2012 at 05:53 AM. |

To me, "Forgotten Deers" is certainly more improv than Be Real With Me.

Old Tomatoes is not a song, it's an intro... 1 minute, only one verse... It's like the third French verse of The Professor.
Child Man Silly Dog is more a song, I think... And I think we should include all the improvs too, because we don't reall know which ones are improvs made on the spot and which not... So, Real With Me, Forgotten Deers, Happy green Joe, Red Nose Happy (although the latest two are 100% improvs made out of audience choices of words, I think?) |

Thanks for the list! Now I see, there's not as nearly as many as I thought :P
There is also 'No one need know' from the new ones. And is there a way to find 'I Don't Know How to Comfort You' and 'Slow'? I didn't even hear about them until now *bad fan* Though I am glad I see I have all the other ones! ^^ |

for me, the difference between Forgetten Deers and Be Real With Me is that Deers has melody. Be Real didn't have one, he just improvised over the melody of Eskimo, so for me, that's not a song but a 'I hate you Lisa' rant

Yeah sorry, I guess what I actually meant was all non-album tracks rather than unreleased in any form (as b-sides, on comps). Even so, the list is incomplete (WDYKAL? anyone?) improvs are certainly songs (R-NH is in my top 3 Damo tunes of all time) and if "My City ****ty" count as a song than "CMSD" and "OT" certainly do too.

i´m still trying to figure out which one is R-NH... anyway... i don´t think "the number" actually counts, at least i never kept track on them... i just enjoy them but that´s me, hehe.

Correct, however nothing like HGJ in terms of quality because I was at both of those shows and anyone else who heard it would call it a proper song no matter when/how it was written (besides, according to Damo at least half of his songs are composed that way) .
Again, Marti, when I talk about that close to one hundred number I'm talking about anything not included on a standard version of either O or 9 (not even including bonus tracks since you'd have to buy multiple specific versions of the record) so exactly as Glo suggests I'm not even including "The Professor" let alone MCS in "non-album" (and either way your list also leaves out several more things like "Baby Sister" and "Rule Number 2"). If people prefer to call them "rare" songs instead then so be it. My real point about that song, though, was that it's about the same length if not even shorter than the other two. Did Juniper even ever put out a full LP? I thought they quit after two EPs and a few singles. So, yes, anything that didn't come out later on a Damo LP (BA, CTR, LS etc), I'm also including in his unreleased/rare/b-sides/other. Same goes for The Barcelona songs. We only heard tiny parts of them, don't know their titles but we know he wrote them so I would count them and I never heard the stuff from the radio show but there were apparently quite a few new songs performed there too so I'd include however many we know about perhaps itemized as "7 (or whatever the actual number was) from Iceland sessions". BTW, Why are we still calling it Forgotten DEERS? I really still think something like "Tear" (rhymes with "pair") or "Over Me" are far more apt.

was talking about released vs unreleased, if you wanna talk about non-album tracks that´s another thing... Baby Sister is released, on the Live at the Union Chappel CD... Rule 2 was on the list...
no clue about Juniper... the title Forgotten Deers is too funny!!!! and I know it doesn´t make sense but now I do hear: where the deers go to be forgotten...

I forgot about these, are these the only songs he has officially recorded (compilations) since 9 ? (not including the songs he co-wrote with melanie)? will he ever play them live, or perhaps they go in the basement?
