One of my favourites is no more.

I shall have me a Bergman mini-marathon tonight.

^ Wow, cool that the Danish TV is actually showing a Bergman film. Hell will freeze over twice before that ever happens on Dutch television.

The Seventh Seal...it's not among my personal Bergman favourites, but I'd recommend it anyway. If for no other reason than for the famous scene of Max Von Sydow playing chess with the Grim Reaper.

rest in peace indeed... i was driving by ingmar's house about a month ago... crazy... he was living on the tiny swedish island of Fårö in the middle of the baltic sea... i took this photo about a mile from his house... he lived his days in a quiet and beautiful place...

RIP ingmar bergman

cille, you should definitely see it. i think the seventh seal is the kind of movie that gets better and better the more times you see it. it's very allegoric and rich yet kinda minimalist in a weird way

^^ That photograph almost looks like the shots from the opening sequence in The Seventh Seal. Can't find the exact shot, but here's them playing chess.

It's a dangerous week for aging film directors; Antonioni died Monday too!

^ This is absolute bullsh!t!!!! It's f*cking ironic. Just yesterday I was thinking "damn, Mickey outlived Bergman". Two greats in one day. That's a knock-out to the world of cinema, for sure. Why wasn't Antonioni's death reported anywhere in plain sight??? Jesus...

Rest in peace, lads.

I think this is the one, just before the chess party and after the shark attack scene that was later edited out for unknown reasons:

Bergman, Antonioni, the legends are leaving us, at least John Carney is still alive and kicking Its strange that they both died on the same day, probably someone up there realised the lack of quality entertainment. true Cinema Paradiso.

It seems very hard to find, as far as I can find out it's not been released on dvd.. If you feel like going back to this lovely country sometime, you just missed Bergman Week http://www.bergmanveckan.se/html/en/ They showed it there, and I'm sure they do every year..

Edit / The only thing I found was some copies at the governmental media-archive or something like that.. The catch is you can only watch it if you're doing some sort of research and are planning to publicize that research. And you have to go to a certain place in Stockholm to watch it.. It all seems like a lot of work..

damn... why the lock and key on this documentary? now i'm even more determined to find it... at some point before i die i will watch this film... thanks for digging emelie... where in sweden are you? i will certainly be back at some point... i flew to sweden simply because it was the cheapest flight from boston to get that far east... i had to be at a wedding in poland... after i started doing a little research i wanted to skip the wedding and stay in sweden the entire time... there's still so much to see...

I'm in a town about an hour away from Stockholm.. You know, chances are great they might show this on tv here, since they've been showing so many things of him these last few days.. I'll keep my eyes open and try to record it for you if it comes up!
And you should definitely come back to sweden! I don't know why... But I should probably say that :P

Yeah you should - if the world were a family, Sweden would be that nice smiling aunt who always brings sweets.
