Gamete Disease
Quote:
In other words for people like me who wont even read this ****e, Gamete disease is the production of bad sperm cells. INTERESTING POINT: when you google "gamete disease", 8 out of the 10 search results are references to damien's The Professor La Fille Danse either through lyrics or otherwise

two gametes come together to make a zygote-a.k.a. fertilization-a.k.a. having a baby. all gametes produced by women (eggs) are female, or X gametes. males however produce both female-X, and male-Y gametes (sperm). as the Y gamete is specific to males only (where as both men and women have X gametes), i'm thinking that damien's "gamete disease" is representative of all males in general. so he's pretty much saying that every one with a yolk is essentially worthless. damien is a wise man...
i don't think he's necessarily talking about him having defective sperm...

I've never taken it so literally, "bombed by my excellent breed of gamete's disease", It's something inherent. It's natrual, it's natrual not to understand as it's as natrual for this girl to laugh and cry. It's natrual for him to mess up again. It's natrual for humans to mess up, because whether we literally have a gamete's disease, we all have natrual flawes which are bound to trip us up in a sense. idk I might be thinking to hard. I love this song.

and maybe it's not literally about defective sperm, but what if it's about impotency? (literal or metaphorical, physical or emotional) "lovin is good if your dick's made of wood, and the dick left inside only half understood her" hmm... |

it's funny because i'm majoring in health studies and my roommate is a biology major and whenever we hear that line we give a little chuckle because gamete disease is just nonsensical term (no offence to Damien). I guess Damien just wanted to make some sort of reference to genetics. I wouldn't dig too deep into the meaning of that line because any definition you derive from that is really stretching it, in my opinion. I say just take it as it is and enjoy the rest of the song because it IS still an amazing song (one of my faves actually)!

i looked that up when i first heard this song a long time ago and what i thought it was about was more of saying how he ruined a relationship because he is not infertial, but unable to work with others maybe. not the production of bad sperm, but bad relationships. but it is just a far fetched thought, but it always seemed to make sense to me... maybe if i didn't suck at explaining it.

(blushing)...oh.
well i still think its rather savage, as in "my hope is that your last living sensation be that of a steel rod being shoved repeatedly up your insides, so that it batters your heart and punctures your stomach." kind of savage. its an angry american thing.

and i don't see why he would just throw out random genetic terminology.. there's obviously meaning behind it, maybe it's very 'inside' to the point of being hermetic but i doubt that it's meaningless.. plus that line of the song has always intrigued me, so good on ya tim for the topic! you are right though al-x it IS an amazing song, so rich with metaphors and such.. so anybody got a take on what finishing it off with some french wine and cheese might mean? |

well sister, in my expert opinion i believe that french wine and cheese is a metaphor for the world ending by mass tea suicide
hehehe....
