i love it, it's a perfect lullaby or bedtime story i agree with marti, damien's songwriting is coming from a more mature perspective now.. you could hear it in songs on 9 like animals and sleep don't weep.. and it's more diverse emotional territory than just "you wanna get boned/stoned/f*cked" etc.. not that i don't love that aspect of his music too, but it's nice to be open to exploring different musical landscapes and letting things evolve.. as opposed to immediately trashing a new song that was played in an impromptu moment, possibly before it was finished, and captured in an audience recording.. (thanks for that cuuliem!) |

i thought i heard only halfway through so i was watching his mouth when he sang.. could be lonely at first, but he must not be much of a friend if she's still lonely

Just to add a bit of confusion, I checked the lil clip from Portland and I'm pretty sure he sings 'LONELY'... That version from Portland sounds more intense, at least with more drums

I'm not very good at this sort of thing.....but I've been listening to it a couple times right now, I think you could be very right. Plus, I think "low" and "lonely" probably make more sense together. I was thinking maybe with his accent that's how he was pronouncing "love".......aww, hehe I thought it was so romantic and sexy |

Hmmm...I'm thinking that maybe it means a sad/down/melancholy friend....he thinks she's sad and lonely, and is wondering where she goes to "pretend" that she is happy she broke up with him/kicked him out ??

On seconds thoughts, it might be 'low' since it would rhyme better... Damien rhymes everything most of the time, so 'low' would rhyme with 'slow' from the next line: ... my low and lonely friend/how slow we're gonna take this bend.
But if it's 'low', I think he should change it to my love!!!! I think My love and Lonely friend is faaaaaaaaaaaaar more poetic |

ahaha.....obviously my brilliant contextual analysis didn't convince you!
And if you listen to Sleep Don't Weep, he doesn't seem to pronounce "love" the same way. But I agree....I hope it ends up being "love" ! |

I agree with LaurenM. It sound incomplete. Like you're sitting around a campfire and someone's like, play that pretend song, and he's like, but i'm not even done with it, or sure if I like it, and you're like please, and he's like OK. Maybe I'm crazy, but it doesn't seem to gel. There are things about it I like, however. I'm willing to bet this will eventually evolve into something that I really like. I think we're looking at an embreyo of a song here.
anyhow, it's 'low and lonely' to my ears. *prepares to hide from tomatoes* Last edited by Airofdecember; 09-11-2007 at 04:13 PM. |

haha....don't worry about tomatoes (or shards of glass) ......unless you start arguing that he should keep the lyrics as "low and lonely" in the final cut ! Moves-My-World....Spamlet mentioned in another thread that Damien said that was the name of the song http://www.eskimofriends.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=14900 Last edited by Lindsay; 09-11-2007 at 07:59 PM. |
