Hello all,

I taped the 04/23 Toronto show and have posted it on the alt.binaries.music.shn usenet group for everyone to download.

I also posted The Frames opening set.

I have posted this to usenet because I don't have the time or bandwidth to trade right now, so hopefully one or two people can grab the show from usenet today and trade it around. I think the tape came out quite nicely, and the show was really great.

For those interested in sound quality, I also taped 09/11/03 and they sound fairly similar.

cheers,
greg.

I am having a hard time accessing the news group through my browser. Could you suggest an alternative to accessing the group? And once I am there, how can I access the show? I did not realize new groups had archive/storage capabilities . . .

So I am assuming that after you get Grabit, you simply enter the use group into an address window and it finds it for you? I am not familiar with Grabit. And how about astranews - what is that?

I downloaded grabit and was able to retrieve the flac files, but for some reason I kept getting error messages when I tried to convert the flac files to wav. Any idea what I might be missing?

I don't know about problems with the FLAC files... download FLAC frontend to decompress them. I checked them before I uploaded them and they came out fine.

Maybe post what the error is and we'll see.

I'd be curious to hear what the other tape sounds like... mine is pretty good... no crowd noise, 3rd row from the left stacks, although taping damien shows is always really difficult as there is such a massive volume difference between quiet and loud... oh and convocation hall has some awful acoustics... with that kind of roof there's always an echo, especially in the drums... too bad because trinity st. paul's (where the show was supposed to be) has some of the best acoustics.

also... i don't have the ability to upload the files anywhere else. maybe try etree.org if you're looking to get the sets from someone. i know a few people from there grabbed the files and will spread them around.

For those who are usenet-challenged :-) I'm torrenting this show on sharingthegroove.

Big kudos to thriftynomad for taping and sharing this. Yay!

best regards,
stephen

Does this require a special program or something to open? My computer doesn't seem to recognise the file. More specifically, my computer doesn't know what program created the file and I need to choose one from a list.....but which one?

I need some help, I'm so bad with computers!!Edited by: wavegoodbye

I just downloaded one (I assume you mean bit torrent). Now it's downloading. But is 36 hours for a download correct?

Downloading a torrent often starts out slowly, then speeds up. Be patient.

If you are firewalled, that could explain the slow speeds. Read the official FAQ here: http://bitconjurer.org/BitTorrent/, specifically the "I'm behind a firewall" bit.

Thanks, I think it's working ok. I assume I'm not behind a firewall because people are also uploading from me.

The Frames set is finished downloading and actually plays, so all is well.

Thanks for the help!

Thanks for sharing the tape. I grabbed it last night from StG. Nice recording - a bit quiet, but nice.

You can also start and stop a torrent, btw. You don't have to leave it open until the download is finished. It will resume.

Hmmm...what program is able to burn flac files onto cd's? Someone suggested Nero but it doesn't work for some reason.

As soon as I can do this, I wouldn't mind doing b&p's for peoplebut I just can't get anything onto cd......ughh. I hate being not tech-savvy.

You need to get the FLAC plugin for Nero. Then you can just drag and drop like you would with a Wav.

Get it here

They also have one for SHN as well if anyone wants it.
