I can't believe no one's said "Come on courage.... Teach me to be shy" It just comes out and at you from left field in the song. I love it |

Yea the French ain't makin sense but I think thats because you haven't put in the second part of La Fille Danse.. It's kinda d same but Lisa sings some words different. If u listen to the live stream of Proffesoron Damo's website you'll hearit. I'd really love to hear what it all means soFrench people-WE NEED YOU! Fav Line-"Mama tried to wash their faces but these kids lost their graces, and Daddy lost at the races too many times.." Fav non Damo line-"Step out the front door like a ghost into a fog where noone notices the contrast of white on white"- Round Here, Counting Crows from "August and Everything After"

I dunno bout the best lyric but surely the most exciting part of the album is when "Come on ye reborn blow off my horn....." kicks in. Always gets me shakin my ass!

<DIV>Lisa's frenchbit : The Dancing girl, when she plays with me, and I think they are the times I like, the silence, no one dares to speak, when we are together, put the words on the little bed time.</DIV>
<DIV></DIV> <DIV>damien's bit: the girl dances when she plays with me in the rain, i miss her, why? i don't know, it’s the song, the night, the wind, the little sleeping sound, open the book, where a full poem was settled in her heart then, at the same time we're holding hands, we're walking by and talking of everything and anything. </DIV> <DIV>Have I helped?</DIV>

"But remember when I moved in you/ And the Holy Dove was moving too/ And every breath we drew was Hallelujah" THAT is love. Love trapped in words. And they said it couldn't be done. Sheesh. "Maybe there's a God above/But all I learnt from love/ Is how to shoot somebody that outdrew you" Just resonates in me in a particular way today. As does the whole of "Be my husband" as covered by Jeff Buckley. From Leonard Cohen/Nina Simone to Jeff Buckleyand Damien Rice. Perfectly sensible. It's not that Lisa Hannigan didn't sing it lovelily (tee hee) just the Jeff Buckley one takes you to a crowded drunk house with an uninterested lot of sweaty men smelling of bourbon and tobacco near some river, in the middle of some too hot too humid summer. Swear it blows me away. And he's still there, singin' the blues, his heart a protest. Ah! |

In delicate where he sings "why do you sing hallelujah?", is that referring to the Jeff Buckley/Leonard Cohen song or does it have another meaning?

i like this: 'life goes easy on me' with that fab continuation: '- most of the time' and then the beginning of 'the professor' ('I don't know if I'm wrong...') won't leave my head these days, the way that the words and the tune just fits together is amazing. That Damien is simply a songwriter in the best possible sense.

for me its hard to beat the tag at the end of blowers daughter into cannonball.....'cant take my eyes.....until i find somebody'....followed by the lovley little e minory type (i know purists will say that is not e minor technically cos of the whole capo 6th fret thing) riff at the start of cannonball....a moment of sheer magic!
