When I saw Damien and band last year, Pedestrian and Rachel Yamagata opened for him... does anyone remember Rachel? I thought she was really good and just wondered if anyone had thoughts on her...

Inspiring and humble stage presence. She managed to get everyone's attention which is no small feat for an opening act. Much more impressed with her short set than pedestrian.

I've never heard her live. she's in LA. She played piano at Tom (McRae's) set two weeks ago.

ok... so she toured with damien last year or so, right? well, if you listen to her lyrics on the EP, in one of the songs, she say something like, "i've done everything for you, but you couldn't stop thinking about her" (lisa, maybe?!)... does anyone else think that maybe she might be talking about damien??!

I do not think Rachael Yamagata's "Worn Me Down" is about Damien Rice.

ok, this is in response to the norah jones comparison.. its gonna sound slightly crazy..in fact i think its slightly crazy as well.. norah jones= perfect, crisp green apple rachel yamagata=succulent pear, possibly greater highs, but not sure wat ure going to get.. ok..that was a completely random thought..any responses?

Yes, Norah Jones is possibly perfect, but actually so much so that she is boring. With Rachael you don't get perfection, it's sometimes clumsy, her lyrics are maybe not the most elaborate and her voicecan be a bit rough at times, but it comes from the heart, you get passion, and shivers down yourspine...

Love, love, love Rachael Yamagata. I didn't know that she toured with Damien. That's very cool. I'm not liking this Norah Jones comparison though. I don't like Norah Jones. I think she's very...uninspired. She doesn't even write most of her songs. I'm not trying to start and arguement though. So I'll just tell you that when I first heard her, I thought Fiona Apple, meets the Beatles, meets White Stripes.... I love her sound and I just think she's great. |

rachael is actually a good friend of my brothers, as i found out today! he
wanted christmas suggestions from me and i told him that it would be cool if he could get his hands on the 'o' tabs book. so, today he emailed me back saying something about how he probably couldnt do that because the book wouldnt be able to ship form europe in time, but it was cool that i like damien rice because he has a good friend named rachael yamagata that did some touring with him last year! i havent heard any of her stuff, but by what u guys are saying she sounds great! oh and by the way, if any of u guys have heard of the baldwin brothers (chicago-area band, cooking with lasers on on tvt records), thats my bros band and im assuming thats how he knows her. woo im 3 degrees from damien rice!

meh could have sworn there was a different thread about rachael, this wasn't the one i was looking for but anywho that's me being fussy!
this is really quite a pointless post but i've just been on her website and saw the photos of her modelling some stuff and my god is she a stunner! i don't know what i thought she'd look like but she is beautiful! that out of the way, i downloaded her album before i came out to mallorca and have just started listening to it in the past couple of weeks and i bloody love it! well impressed! |
