Bright Eyes
Hmmmm, is it really uncool of me to think that some of this guys music is absolutally brilliant? What's your opinions?
Also, if there are any hardcore bright eyes fans, could you direct me to some songs of his, along the lines of landlocked blues, first day of my life, haligh haligh etc. Nothing like the TimeCode song and other's that to me just sound abit weird. |

I think Bright Eyes is very talented, with a very distinctive voice. Some of his live stuff is brilliant, with a passion similar to Damiens live performances. If you didnt like the album with Time Code (Digital ash in a digital urn) then check out his album 'Im wide awake its morning'.. its a more standard acoustic, emotionally driven album, using alot less effects. Tracks to look out for in paticular, Landlocked blues as uve mentioned, but also poison oak, probably his best ever in my opinion.
Also, he has a live album entitled 'Motion sickness' which feautures a great version of landlocked blues.. its kinda rocked up a bit, but it works. Hope that helps, if you want any of his stuff just gimme a pm |

yeah, he's pretty good. at last year's roskilde festival, his gig was definately one of the best - huge band with strings and all, and a lotta folky madness onstage

Hi guys, thanks for the pointers. Been reading up on him a bit (I can't help doing that with artists I like, I have to know as much as I can find out). I've got the 'I'm wide awake...' album, and I'm amazed! I love the beginning of At the Bottom Of Everything, this guy has a strange voice.
I've also read though, that he's an incredibly arrogant little ****, renowned for getting too drunk to play well at gigs and over-voicing his opinions. I downloaded a live play of First Day Of My Life and it was confirmed, absolutally terrible. Not enough so to stop me listening to the studio stuff though. I may PM you sometime soon Ilium |

he's good. a lot of really good songwriter's seem to have a predilection for drinking too much on stage (dylan, adams, et al.)

i really like some of his stuff, but really dont like other stuff....he's too hit and miss for me at the moment...
when he gets it right, it's brilliant. i downloaded all the free tracks from his site, and thats entirely what im basing my opinion on! so far, it hasnt convinced me to go out and buy any of his albums (and the fact there's no tracklisting on any of them, so you dont know what yer getting is rather annoying) |

Hey, I LOVE Bright Eyes, though I agree for some people he can be a little hit or miss.
I also agree that Lifted is the standout album, great songs! Some of the songs that first got me interested, and that maybe you'll enjoy are: A Perfect Sonnet Sunrise, Sunset Lua Lover I don't have to love Soon You'll be leaving your man It's Cool, We Can Still Be Friends False Advertising and so on.. |
