anyone know anything about the grammys?
Nominations for the Grammy awards are announced on December 6th. I'm just wondering how likely it is that Damien will get a nomination for 9? It wasn't eligible last year, so this is the first time it is eligible for nomination.
What category / categories is Damien eligible for? He's much more popular now than when O was released, so hopefully he will get a nomination. It would be great for Irish music to have some more acts at the Grammys. Hopefully Glen and Marketa will get a nomination for their Once soundtrack too, if that is eligible... Any Grammy experts amongst us? |

I'd say the Grammys have nothing to do with being popular, it's all about record companies and 'lobbying'. If you lobby, you're in. Some artists get nominated every year, like for instance Sheryl Crow, no matter how crappy her recent releases are.
Not sure about which category he would fit in (there are so so many)... rock? alternative? folk????? and there's like best song, best track, best performance... for instance 9 Crimes could be in as best performance by a duo... He could even get it for best album cover, best album packaging!!!! Fingers crossed

i think damien, glen and maketa are waaaay to good for the grammys. it's usually the brittneys, green days, justins and kanyes who win those awards

The (long) lists came out a while ago - Damien, Glen & Marketa were on a few of them.
Record of the Year 9 Crimes - Damien Rice & Lisa Hannigan (they're listed together) Falling Slowly - Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova Album of the Year 9 - Damien Rice Once Soundtrack - Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova Song of the Year 9 Crimes - Damien Rice & Lisa Hannigan (written by Damien Rice) Falling Slowly - Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova Best New Artist Fionn Regan (Sidenote: Amy Winehouse is on the list too... but I don't see how she can be a "new" artist for 2008 if she's been around since 2003?) Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals 9 Crimes - Damien Rice & Lisa Hannigan Falling Slowly - Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova Best Male Pop Performance Lies - Glen Hansard I have absolutely no clue if they'll make the shortlists, or if they'll have a shot at winning. But it sure would be something to watch them walk the red carpet |

^but what's that? it's not the final list, isn't it? who made that? or is it like the record companies suggestions?
and I was thinking that maybe Amy Winehouse counts if her old debut album was never fully released in the US... It was a complete flop first time around in the UK so I doubt it got a full US release, so Back to Black might be her 1st US proper release... not sure...

Nope, it's not the final list - it's a list of what the record companies/artists have submitted to be considered.
So, it's just what Damien's made himself eligible for. The list was leaked back in October: Record of the Year http://www.freefilehosting.org/publi...ecord_year.pdf Album of the Year http://www.freefilehosting.org/publi...album_year.pdf Song of the Year: http://www.freefilehosting.org/publi.../song_year.pdf Best New Artist http://www.freefilehosting.org/publi...new_artist.pdf Pop Field http://www.freefilehosting.org/public/46308/Pop.pdf more here |

^Thanks for that, now I see, so that is the entry list!!
9 crimes was not in the list for videos... but Fionn Regan was!!! and I also saw Athlete on the New Artist list... when they have like 3 albums out so far, and I even bought the 2nd here in the US in 05... so not sure how it works...

thanks for the srahman
i know awards are a bit silly, but i still get excited when U2 win a grammy (or seven) and i'll be excited for damien, lisa and glen too. i think there should be a soundtrack category too, so presumably glen and marketa were put forward for that too? i think they would have a very good chance of being nominated for such a category. This LA Times insider blog describes Once as the best soundtrack of the year, but notes that it wasn't nominated for the American Music Awards. '9 Crimes' doesn't really feel like a Grammys kinda song... but we'll see... Last edited by administrator; 11-21-2007 at 11:31 AM. |

Well, I read somewhere that Glen flew to L.A. to personally perform for the Oscar-song-choosing committee (or whatever their official title is )... so they're most definitely in the running! Not to mention, practically every review of the movie has thrown the word Oscar out there at least once...
The AMA's are horrible. Even worse than the Grammy's, in my humble opinion. Though it would have been something to have Fergie perform - cut to commercial - then come back to Glen & Mar on stage. |

^^ i can see glen showing up for the 'red carpet' ... but do you really think damo would show up!? ... i cannot imagine it... haha all dressed up and with his hair all done and all!... oh he'd probably wear the patchwork shirt !!!
if he does show up he should bring Lisaaaaaaaaa!!!! ^Does the "choosing committee people" make them perform to see if they want to nominate them or to see if they want them to perform at the actual show???? ... i just don't see the reason why they would have to see them perform to know that they're brilliant!!!! ... if they already have the movie and the soundtrack, which is why they would be nominating them ...mmm maybe they just wanted a free show he he

This year could be especially great if Glen and Mar are on the same bill as Sondre Lerche (though I think he's a long shot)! And of course Lisa should be there! She'd be nominated right along with him It'll be just surreal to see any of them on the red carpet. Or even, if they skip that, in the audience as the cameras pan through the crowd... |

And sure, they get it right sometimes, but usually when those albums were a big success/hit #1... And there are some upsets... but the only one I can remember is the Oh Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack - which had lots of buzz, but very little radio play. I think Glen and Marketa might have that buzz now, especially if they get nominated for an Oscar/Golden Glove too. Not sure what Damien's chances are... though I'd love to see him be nominated/win! Wikipedia tells me: Record of the Year goes to the performer & producers Album of the Year goes to performer & producers Song of the Year goes to writers of the song Last edited by srahman24; 11-22-2007 at 07:21 PM. |

The Grammy nominations have just been announced, don't see Damien but again I don't see all categories, just the Big Ones, I only see Amy Winehouse everywhere

That's really, really awesome for Once!!!! But honestly, why do the Grammys even try? Last year the show was pretty good- there was a decent amount of older and, um, better artist there. But this is obviously an "Oh, they're at the top of the charts, let's pick them" way of selecting people. Is it just me or are the less popular people almost always the better artist?
