Damo's soulmates: David Lynch and Wim vandeKeybus (for me that is...)
Pure, Intense, Passionate, Spiritual, Beyond this world, Authentic, Explorer's...
Just a few words which link these soulmates in other expression forms: David Lynch for all the beautifull movies he's made, going tonight to see Inland Empire for the first time probably not the last... Wim vandeKeybus, Belgian choreographer of dancegroup Ultima Vez, he was at Brussels concert and uses a lot of intense "rock"music in his shows. Till now mostly 16Horsepowe/Woven Hand/DEE music but seeing his reaction at Damo's concert we might expect some Damo's music in his show's, Woman like a Man would be perfect! And o yeah from musical side: Ray Lamontagne, Ryan Adams, Jeff Buckley.... Share the soulmates and be inspired! |

I really don't see the Damien/Lynch thing, not one bit. David Lynch does make great films, (Not really beautiful - Have you seen the baby in Eraserhead? Or the cinematography in Inland Empire for that matter...) but he does it to shock and disturb people; he intentionally sets out to provoke a WTF reaction from a viewer.
I suppose they are similiar in creative processes, as Damien said he sings because he has to, and that it's like diarrhea , and I'm sure Lynch has said something about doing art as a therapy (Don't forget that Lynch was primarily and artist and his films merely installation pieces). The reactions from people are similar to their respective works, Damien does have a very dark undertone to his songs, and though I personally haven't been shocked by his songs some people have been. Lynch is also dark too (By character) but he sets out to provoke a reaction where as Damien's crowd reaction is secondary. Due to the vast differences in creating a film and creating a song, there a limits to how much you can compare a Director/Writer to a Singer/Songwriter, it's a statement akin to stating Alice Deejay/Steven Spielberg are soulmates; clearly one could find enough small similarities to back that statement up, but it wouldn't really prove anything. Soulmates is probably too strong a word, as I doubt they would have much in common if they met, and probably wouldn't cohere well together in a working environment.
