Update: Damien Rice has been confirmed to perform at this gig.</font>

If you missed out on tickets for Damien's gigs in Vicar St, then don't forget about this great night planned for Vicar Street on January 28th in aid of the victims of the recent devestating earthquake in Bam, Iran. All profits from the gig will be funnelled through Save The Children directly to the children of Bam.

Tomo, Damien's drummer, is co-organising this event, and it promises to be a really, really special night.

If you can't make it on the night and would like to contribute something, then you can call the 24 hour credit line and state that it's for the earthquake appeal or make postal donations and mark the cheque for that purpose. Here are the two contact details:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

BENEFIT GIG FOR VICTIMS OF BAM EARTHQUAKE

VICAR ST TO HOST DUBLIN’S MUSICAL RESPONSE

On Wednesday January 28th, Vicar St will host a concert to mark the
Dublin music community’s response to the earthquake which devastated the
Iranian city of Bam on St. Stephen’s Day, killing over 40,000 people.

The night will include solo performances from Lisa Hannigan, Paul Noonan
(Bell X1), Steve and Joe Wall, cellist Vyvienne Long, the Tycho Brahe,
Shakram Music and Dance Company and other special guests.

All proceeds from the gig will go to support the work of Belfast-based
“Save the Children” which has a special project working with children who
have been left homeless or orphaned by the disaster. It is estimated
that over 80% of the city was destroyed in the earthquake and besides the
devastating loss of life, caring for the survivors is a major concern
with no proper buildings, food supplies or sanitation. Tens of thousands
of people are now living in tents or makeshift dwellings, enduring the
sub-zero temperatures of an Iranian winter.

The night is being organised by Tanja Raab and Damien Rice drummer, Tomo
who were drawn to the plight of the citizens of Bam.

“One thing that best exemplifies the plight of the children of Bam is the
realisation that thousands of children have been orphaned by the
disaster” said Tanja. “To make matters worse, Bam’s only orphanage
collapsed in the quake, killing 54 of the 60 children sleeping inside,”
said Tomo.

Tickets for the gig will go on sale Tuesday the 13th from Road Records,
Sound Cellar, City Disk, Claddagh Records and Ticketmaster outlets
nationwide, priced at €28.
