Default Record Player Help

I'm just getting into records and would like to know what a good player would be. I'd like to have something that will hook up easily to my reciever and have all the features I should have. I don't think I need anything too crazy, just something to play a few random things (including some of the 7" Damien has been releasing). Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks.

Default turntable

if you already have a receiver (preamplifier) make sure it has an input jack for a turntable (should be labeled phono) and if not you can buy one with a built-in preamp. technics are top of the line and pricey, but for home use a belt-driven turntable like a pioneer or something would work fine. i think you could probably pick one up for around $100-200. a diamond stylus (needle) won't wear out your records as much and with good decks the cartridge arm floats above the deck

buy cleaning supplies for your records and the stylus and clean your records before and after you play them. also if you can get anti-static protective sleeves for both the record and the record cover. never store them horizontally because they'll warp, stack them vertically and try to keep them in a stable temperature with no humidity. when playing try not to jump around or dance near the deck in case it skips and scratches the record.. fair warning because that happened to me many a time

you can buy a preamp for your receiver too. i think the quality will be a bit better then.
unfortunately the quality of the most new records isn't as good as it was used to be....
but i love records. they are just beautiful!
