Now that you mention it I remember going to see a play "La ballon rouge" at a local theater to me, when I was a kid. But still, other than it being a guy and a what's meant to be a balloon, I fail to see any other parallels.

I loved that video! the look on Lisa's face when she realises whats about to happen and the look on Damo's when it does; so sad. I hope that they continue in this trend now with their videos.

I agree with you eamo...this is even better than the blower's daughter video, I like videos only when they tell a story and I hope they do the same in future

After reading this thread last night I was expecting something totally stupid but after watching the video I instantly liked it.
I chuckled a bit but only cos of how strange the balloon thing (lisa's head floating about) is at first, but not cos it's a funny video. I think there is some good acting there by Damo and Lisa...the video suits the song and Damien well. It's very artsy, like a really obscure short indie film, and my guess is that's what they were going for since the imagery is similar to The Red Balloon. The last scene is my favourite... What's wrong with Damien's red jacket? I quite like it... I also just noticed that Lisa's eyes are green...I always thought they were brown.

the video is definately amazing. The "balloon" makes everything seem so innocent..I dont know, you know what I mean? In contrast with the lyrics

i can't find it for purchase anywhere claudia, but i really want to see it again now too, so i'm trying to download it but it's going very slowly. it was made in 1956 and won an Academy Award and Cannes for best short film that year..

Seems there was a sequel in 2000, 'The Revenge of the Red Baloon'... "The Balloon is back... And he's pissed!!! The Red Balloon returns to hunt down the bad little boys (now middle-aged Frenchmen) who popped it in the original classic film 40 years ago."
*edit* I see Building's wikipedia reference also mentions it... Beaten by moments...

Inspired, in part, by Albert Lamorisse's classic 1955 film "The Red Balloon", a group of abused balloons rise up to exact revenge on their oppressors. Shot entirely in Puerto Rico, this is Moralesfilms 2nd short. We hope you enjoy it and encourage you to check out Lamorisse's film and other shorts which it no doubt similarly inspired, such as "Billy's Ballon" and "The Revenge Of The Red Balloon". La Vengeance des Ballons

I think 'The Red Baloon' should have it's own thread. You should start one with those links Building. Then we can talk about it there rather than here, which we can leave for Damien's video specifically.

IMO it reminds me of Tori Amos's video for A Sorta Fairytale in which a girl who's just a head and a leg falls for a boy who's a head and an arm... hard to tell, better watch:
