Definately recommend him to those who haven't heard of him...

There's an article about him in Hotpress:

The Tom-Tom Club

"Ghosts in the studio, celebrity spotting and girls dressed in black with poetry books. All in all, it’s been an average year for Tom McRae."

Can anybody supply the full article or tell if it's anything interesting?

I think he's playing in Belfast on the 26th.

Are you sure? He played there opening for Tori Amos in June, but I can't imagine him playing Denmark in fall.

While we are at it: On July 18th Tom is playing a one-off at the Hotel Cafe in LA!

How cool is THAT!

GO, GO, GO! You can't miss him, seeing how much you are into singer/songwriters!

Damn. I hope he announces some US dates soon. He said he'ds be back in September.

Passed on to Tom's forum, just in case he doesn't know yet

Yes, they do. It's sort of exciting to find them before they are officially announced.

So, will you be going?

yeah, its only 150 kr (around 27$/20 euros) and it's at 'lille vega', the smaller of vega's two venues (where damien also played and where i've seen most of my concerts through the last couple of years) and i love going there cause it's so intimate and lovely.
PLUS i'll have time to get into tom mcrae before then, havent listened too much to him but i like what i heard, and he comes with the best recommandations from people i respect ^
- so yeah i will go!

Great! You'll have to post about it again before you go, alright? I don't want to miss this important event (and I doubt I'll remember it come November).

I'm in New York at the minute so no. But I did see Tom in a bar at CMJ, not playing like, just hanging out.

He played a CMJ show at the Living Room. What bar did you see him in? He played two shows in Boston before NY, with Cary, Jarrod and Josh. Jarrod was great if you are in the Bright Eyes angle.

CMJ Music Festival show! Cary Brothers, Tom McRae, Jarrod Gorbel (of The Honorary Title), KT Tunstall, Joe Purdy, Jim Bianco, Kevin Devine, Steve Reynolds, Joshua Radin, Jay Nash, Tim Jones, Abba Roland

Joseph Arthur is playing the Bowery Ballroom on the 28th.

He's doing the Hotel Cafe tour, with Imogen Heap, Rachel Yamagata, Carey Brothers, etc...

Actually, he's back in Europe now for his own gigs. The Hotel Cafe Tour continues without him. Did you go to one of those nights? It's a lot of fun!

Simon, you could check Ticketmaster to see if they are still showing tickets. If not, you'll have to try attract Tom's attention.

Have fun, closing_doors! I'm hoping for some reviews afterwards

I saw him in the upstairs of the venue I think. Or the place next door.

Ok, review as promised....

Last time I saw Tom it was just him, a cellist and a guy on keyboards, so it was nice to see him with a full band. He played for about an hour and a half, with his usual witty between-song banter (topics ranged from phone sex to whether or not he'd ever be famous enough to play the Point!), though by the end of it I think (as much as he tried to put a good face on it) he was very much pissed off by this group of 4 birds who were off their heads. I'm sure the rest of the crowd thought they were endearing at first (I was standing beside so I didn't). They kept shouting for random songs and, to Tom's bewiderment, started jumping up and down to his "sad songs" ...anyway at the end his guitar tech was about to hand Tom another guitar nut he just said goodnight and walked off. Anyway....good gig, was very surprised by the absence of Girl Who Falls Downstairs (which I'd thought was his "big" single for this album, relatively speaking ) & Border Song. Setlist (not in exact order except for first couple of songs & last few songs) was as follows:

For the Restless,
Karoake Soul,
How the West Was Won,
A&B Song,
It Ain't You,
Sau Paulo Rain,
Walking 2 Hawaii
My Vampire Heart,
Hummingbird Song,
End of the World News,
Silent Boulevard (with a bit of "This is the Sea"),
Language of Fools,

----------

Bloodless,
Still Lost,
Boy with the Bubblegun

That about covers it I think

Thanks for the review and the set list!

I've never seen Tom with the band. Did you like it better or was it just different?

And what phone sex joke? Inquiring minds want to know!

Ugh and ugh. Talk about destroying the mojo! Would it maybe have been appropriate to, eh, dowse them in champagne? Poor Tom

I've never heard him play 'The girl who fell downstairs' (*shrug*). It looks like a good set list. I don't think I ever heard 'Karaoke Soul' either. Maybe one of these days he'll even play 'Precious Cargo' - just to amuse us

Sounds like it was mostly fun, the "mosh pit" nonewithstanding

I was at the CMJ show - I totally annopyed though because Imogen Heap was supposed to be on the bill and KT Tunstall wasn't supposed to go on until 9:30, but Imogen had visa problems, so couldn't join the tour when she was supposed to, and they rearranged the goddamn schedule and how was I supposed to know? I didn't get there until after KT had already played. I really liked Jarrod. Steve Reynolds was okay, but his voice was too breathy. Tom is good at what he does, but I don't like his voice. I was with Ian when we saw Tom hanging out in the lounge upstairs from the venue.

Just different tbh. It was definately worth having the band for songs like Karoake Soul, whereas other might be more suited to a more stripped back approach. Bloodless was played solo & was amazing

You don't want to know believe me! Let's just say I'll never be able to hear the sound of an ice-cream van again without thinking of Tom's rather (too) vivid story

Tom said at one stage "I'd buy you a drink but it looks like you're ok in that department". It was just really annoying for all concerned....they literally couldn't stand up straight so they kept falling into everyone around them. They talked through most of the songs, even the ones they requested!

I have a video of "Girl who falls downstairs" played on some TV show, but I don't remember if he played it last time I saw him. It's not my favourite song of his by any means, I was just surprised he didn't play it - it seemed to me he did a lot of promo for it and there may well have been a few people there because of it...

Haven't heard Precious Cargo I don't think...it was a b-side wasn't it?
