Arpeggio style?
Pardon my lack of knowledge(!), but i've been learning a few Damien Rice songs of late, but have fallen down on 'The Professor' when attempting to learn from the DamienTabs website (http://www.geocities.com/damientabs/Professor.txt). Basically at the top it says that the verse chords are to be picked in arpeggio style. What exactly does this mean? I reckon I can play along listening to the track, but just to make sure...

The playing of the tones of a chord separately, rather than simultaneously is an arpeggio.

that is a hard song to play well -- I'm pretty adept at covering people's style, but that song's ebb and flow are super-tricky to get right - a super fun challenge
Good luck Grant - I'm sure you'll get it. Benjamin

For a relative beginner like myself (although I have played the bass for a while, not exactly the same however...) i've found it difficult to get to grips with playing it from the sheet without starting to take into consideration the style in which Damien plays it! But I am getting there, slowly but surely.
All I can't seem to figure out is the piece after the line "Sur la petite dodo" where Damien breaks off into some "la da da da" style singalong - the guitar playing through this part sounds very interesting indeed and is probably simple, but I can't seem to get the desired effect? Does anyone have any tips? |
