If I ever meet him, I wish I have my guitar with me, and we could switch off playing songs for eachother. Or meet him backstage, and jam together on eachother's guitars. Also, he looks so much better with the long wild hair.

they're just normal people at the end of the day... so dont treat them any different than a person on a bus... just go up and say howdy... the worst that can happen is they give you a slap

Cannot overemphasize how important it is to treat them like they are people, given that they are. Especially for shyer folks like Damo and Vyv, if you walk up all freaked out or babbling or drooling or stammering, it just tweaks them out too (although they've gotta be used to it by now).
The main thing is, you'll totally regret it if you meet them and can't hold it together long enough to just give a heartfelt sentiment or ask a question and maybe even have a conversation! I've met people I absolutely worship (I don't worship Damo, but I can relate to those of you who do), and the times I lost my **** and just stood there staring, what a waste of a chance to connect with someone I admire! But the times I asked a question I've always wondered about, or made a comment about the show, I always ended up in a short coversation and it was meaningful, and it was an awesome memory to have! They're talented, they're famous, and they're awfully attractive, that Damien Rice crew. But they're people, normal people, and you will have a much better interaction with them if you can remember that and keep your sh*it together when you meet them. Save the freak out until you're back in your car! p.s. Just by approaching normally, I got a movie star (Jared Leto) to leave a message on my sister's answering machine because she's crazy into him. I seriously doubt he would have done that if I'd approached him all tweaked out. We had a nice conversation (he even touched my arm during it! Hubba hubba!), and then I asked and he did it. How cool was that? It's all about treating them normally. Last edited by M I A; 05-09-2005 at 03:17 PM. |

Damo is easily the sweetest, chillest and most generous celebrity I have ever met. There's an old thread somewhere on here about the half hour I spent talking to him after the legenday Cleveland gig last year. Ah, here we go! If you'd like to read it, I found the thread for ya:

thanks, Spamlet. What an experience. I'm so jealous.
I don't know what I'd do if I ever meet him. I wouldn't dare start a conversation. I'm terrible at those. I'd probably come off as a dumbass. I think I'd probably just be dumb and stare.

I met Damo in between shows at Joe's Pub in New York I guess winter of 2003. Extraordinary show in a small venue just right before he got airplay. He was really cool. Was just hanging out outside of dressing room which was by the john. We spoke for a bit and signed a t-shirt. Same for Lisa. |
