Damian Rice
<TABLE border=0 cellPadding=0><T><T> <T> <TR> <TD vAlign=top>Certain songs inspire words in me to flow effortlessly crashing in toward one another and comming apart, it's quite unknown to me just how they come to rest within this hapazard organizational form that seems to others looking in, choreographed: when they are more like water or Nirvana they just 'come as they are' and stand complete. His songs bring back the need for the music itself and I find myself dusting off my black Takamine Jasmine dream in the corner by the window that has as of late, just enhanced the scene. Your music reminded me, Instruments are saddened by the lack of resonance. Damian, your words are simple and explosive in increments, like blah blah blah and then KABOOM! 'Volcaones melt you down' oh how I can relate, you romanced me with the rythmn but destroyed me with one line. The music, it has a language all it's own, notes like sacred glyphs and angelic seals that capture and then conjure a host of holy and unholy things up from within: Like Gregorian chants and Arias most people don't ever understand the words but they laugh or cry on cue and feel the fever of expression, rising up from beneath never knowing it is the secrets in the music the composer carefully placed behind the grand and gurrelous singing beast of the coloralatore Soprano or the Tenors puffed up breast. then along came little you no offense, but I am taller, and yet, you are larger still in musical ability and a sense of depth most men never have the balls to show. I adore you both together, you and Lisa sole mates that I get the sense, have never really come together, yet both are stuck like glue and fly paper, and I am so very glad you are. The two of you are reaching far beyond your time like most great artists do don't worry if you don't catch on you are singing and playing like Bach, to a pack of birds all facing opposite directions on a wire: pecking and pushing one another off and on. they wont all understand it but most of them will feel something. and if you are like the grand composers of old that will be the point. You having a vital hand in their process of evolution play on~ I adore you both. </TD></TR></T></T></T></TABLE>Edited by: Aileron |

This, was written for the type of persn who only appreciates music if it is sensationalized and carbon copied over the air on music channels and overplayed raido stations. Too often in this day and age, things are only appreciated for their commercial value. Sometimes people like Damian become appreciated in spite of this and I hope that is the case, I really hope you explode all over the airwaves and come across the lines to touch the whole world, but the sad reality here in the states is beat box processed crap is the popular norm. I saw "volcanoes" on Vh1 only a few times and much to my utter and complete dismay I have not seen it again. If this poem seems insulting, this is what I meant by it! It is my hope that the world comes to embrace the brilliance in your music but all too often brilliance gets overshadowed by the blinding glare of neon. Lisa Maire |

I like to think of poetry as therapy more than anything else, I use it for that and to give tribute to the bright lights in life like Damian and the band. I have this piece posted in a poetry site called the "Starlight Cafe", I am spreading the word of the Rice miester here in the States any way I can! I have turned a lot of people on to him so far and I hope it spreads like wildfire! I have not enjoyed a musician and a band as much as I have this one since Jeff Buckley! |

wow. well done i think that poem has a lot more relevance to damien than you think. 'they laugh or cry on cue' 'cried when she should and laughed when she could' the professor! well done again

that is wonderful, and it is a shame that because of the crap that is on the radio and tv artists like damien and lisa dont get the exposure they should because alot of people are missing out on a beautiful experience. i wish that i could do what they do, it must be intensly theroputic (sp) for them.

oh, we were talking about that on another post. I am not sure if you posted there to. Hmmmm I think we came to the conclusion that U.S. radio kills good musicians like Damien and Lisa etc.
