Anthrax alert at Westminster

THE Houses of Parliament were sealed off last night amid fears of an anthrax attack.

The alarm was raised after white powder was scattered in Westminster's central lobby by an unidentified man, who told onlookers it contained anthrax.

Eyewitnesses reported a man shouting:"You could all be dead. You could all be dead", after a 5ft-long spill of powder appeared on the floor.

Police and security guards sealed off the area and tested the substance, later confirming it to be harmless (just flour).

A man was arrested and was being questioned.

MPs were in session at the time of the incident, but their debate was not interrupted.

Following the routine procedures, the palace was immediately sealed off, with MPs, peers, officials and journalists all prevented from leaving.

But within an hour officials gave the all-clear.
