I thought it was a good performance, very similar to the album version IMO. I liked it. Not amazing but ok. And yep Lisa rushed a bit in the beginning, was going too fast but that lasted 10 seconds and then she caught the pace again... Emotionally I found it also similar to the album version...

Sorry about the resizing. I tried to split it using a program I have as it's a real high quality rip of the show, but it was out of sync so I ended up having to use windows movie maker which massacred the quality and aspect ratio

Argh, I love "9 Crimes" and this was the most flat reindition ever! I haven't even made it through the whole song.

was I the only one that was dissappointed that Jay Leno didn't even mention the album? I know the show ran late but they usually do take 5 seconds to promote the album of the musical guest?

Diz,
He plugged the record right before where the clip starts.

i can't believe everybody keeps going on about how emotionless the performance was.. did you see the bizarre events going on right before they went on? how is he supposed to muster up a soulful performance while whats-his-name is dancing around martha stewart without his underwear?! plus the tonight show scene is pretty far removed from the intimate vibe damien is used to.. jeez lighten up on the guy, he was probably nervous (who wouldn't be?) he doesn't always have to be perfect.

It's not on youtube anymore and they sendspace thing..I downloaded it but all I got was sound, no video??? Hopefully it will show up again.
Sis--I agree with you...haven't actually watched the performance but nobody can be perfect and in good form all the time. I didn't dig the KCRW session, but I don't feel like slagging him or the band for it...its just the way it goes...some gigs are better than others...

I'm curious about what you didn't like about the KCRW performance though, Sole.

seems like you have to be quick to watch this, NBC are ever on the lookout.
Was it just me, but at the end, did it look like there were more notes coming out of the piano than Damien was making.

How long has Damien played the piano for? The way he looks in the tv & radio performances that have come out this week make it seem like he's a beginner. Maybe the lack of facial emotion stems from concentrating too hard on the playing? I hadn't noticed this during the live performances I saw this summer - but I couldn't see his hands so well at those times. Just a thought.

He played it on "O" though too. Not sure if that's his piano playing on Juniper's "Wooden Horse" or his keybords on their "Then Go" or on several other of their tracks, but, either way, I honestly don't think he's a newbie. He also played the Rhodes organ on "9" and all during the last tour.
BTW, although he usually keeps it very simple, the piano playing in the breathtakingly beautiful instumental extended ending of "AB" is considerably faster, more sophisticated/complicated and yet he always seems to play that part with ease. I therefore think he often plays the piano that more tentative way on purpose. It reflects the uncertainty of the characters themselves. It's the same thing as the way he lets his voice crack on record too. The emotion is the most important aspect of the song and often a broken voice is needed. Lost and trying desperately to find the way out of their Hell one painful note at a time.

On O he's only credited as playing piano on Cold Water. Which I take to mean the simple chord-based opening, which is so simple even I would be pretty confident in giving it a go :P
[EDIT] Oh, and Bumpman has already reliably informed us that Damien was not responsible for any of the piano or keyboard work in Juniper.
